These guards do a fine job guarding the wall ...
I first read about The Great Wall when I was about 8 years old. It was one of those 3 or 4 mysterious places in the world that I had to visit. It lived up to and exceeded my expectations. Here are a few photos of the day's walk. They are from the Mutianyu section (one of about 5 sections of the wall within 100km's of Beijing). Everything in China is big, really big, but this it big beyond belief. Even when you walk the 2-3 km's allowed to you on a day's visit, the thought of this wall extending thousands of kilometers, up and down the craggy cliffs and ravines like a snaking dragon is almost beyond comprehension.
