.....STUNNING.....AMAZING....INCREDIBLE......FANTASTIC.....And the goes on and on.....
After an 8 hour bus ride from Phnom Penh i arrived in Siem Reap, ass hurting from the hard bus seats, I was greeted with a sign with my name by the tuk tuk driver for the guest house I booked and he informed me that if I was to do a tour ( which I planned to do anyway) of Angkor the next day the ride to the guest house was free! Sign me up! The guest house I booked is Siem holiday guest house and it's close to pub street and all the action which I don't really do lol, but for those who read this it's info for you. The bunk room I booked is empty as it's low season here so I got the room all to myself. I didn't feel like walking and exploring the first night as I was tired from the bus ride so I just walked around the corner and got a pizza from a place called happy pizza, it was pretty good considering its...we'll....Asia. I planned which tour I was going to do and took a shower and crashed out early around 9:30pm.
The next morning I woke up bright and early at 6am as usual, I wanted to go get some coffee before heading to Angkor Wat. I was hoping to find a coffee shop open at that time as I was told by the hotel staff they usually open up at 6-6:30am which of course wasn't the case, instead a mobile cart was in the street and nice lady sold me two iced coffee's for $1 I quickly took a sip and BLAM! It was the Vietnamese style I was searching for in Phnom Penh and never could find....today MIGHT just be spectacular :-). The tuk tuk driver picked me up at around 7:45am and so began the 6 hour tour which included Angkor Wat, Terrace of the elephants, terrace of the leper kings, Takeo, Banteay Kdei and lastly Ta Prohm All for $14 and 6 hours!!!! Not including the one day pass $20.
This being the low season I knew there would be rain in the afternoon as well as less tourists than usual (aside from the hoards of Japanese and Koreans with tour guided groups) which was a good thing, there were still
a lot of people there when I arrived, but I still was able to explore on my own a ton which made it insanely good. I only had a tuk tuk driver who would just drop me off at each site and chill out in the parking lot until I was done which was great also as I didn't want any guide with me, for me yes it's great to hear all the intricate details one might not hear otherwise, but I wanted to and have always explored alone as I did in Palenque, Ek Balam, Chichen Itza and numerous other Mayan sites. Palenque was amazing and up until now held the crown of best ancient sites I have visited, now the crown has passed to Angkor Wat. I will one day return to Central America and do those sites again along with Tikal and others I missed because I lost about 4000 travel pics when my external hard drive crashed on me.
This is by far the most pictures I have taken at any one site I have visited (about 600) and I have to say that Ta Prohm is the best, not because they shot
Tomb Raider there, but it's just....I can't describe it....the moss growing all over the old buildings which are crumbling due to erosion and mammoth tree roots eating it. The piles of rocks are even awesome there. I made it my last stop because I was expecting greatness and that is what I got for sure. I posted the Ta Prohm pictures first here Because I think they came out the best. Instead of buying a digital camera I have been using my iPad for my travel pictures now and I love it And I hope you do too!
My last day in Siem Reap will be spent relaxing and going to the night market here, depending on how lively it is and how many pictures I take I might do another blog, but we'll see. For now I'm very impressed with Cambodia and will be leaving tomorrow for Thailand so fellow travelers I hope you enjoy the pics, feel free to message me or comment ......some votes on pictures would be awesome as we'll if you like them 😊 thanks all
Buen Viaje
