Angkor Wat in Cambodia

I was in Angkor Wat back on January 16th, and I finally got the chance to update my blog now. The internet connections here are painfully slow, but it's worth it to share these photos with you. My friend from Seattle, Dave, joined me in Bangkok and we flew from Thailand to Siem Reap in Cambodia (the city nearest Angkor Wat).

Angkor Wat is only one of several hundred temple ruins near Siem Reap. Most of the temples were originally constructed between 800 and 1200 AD...

We crossed a stone bridge over the 100-meter-long moat to enter the temple grounds.

We met a local artist in one of the temples who told us he was selling his paintings to to raise money for an orphanage. We got the chance to visit and it was the highlight of our day. The Orphans and Disabled Arts Association takes care of children whose parents have died from Aids, as well as poor disabled people. Local volunteers teach them living skills, art and even English.
