Don't even think about it!!!!
We did some "sidejobs" while we were here too...haha Alright, where to start... After sitting in the Singapore airport for a few extra hours, our plane finally left for Bangkok. We all tried to pass out on the flight but it was pretty rough so we kept waking up :P We landed at Bangkok airport at 1am and had to pay another stupid 500 baht departure fee even though we only stayed there for 7 hours :P WTF We "tried" to sleep in the Bangkok airport but the plastic chairs weren't the greatest. Raj and Will went for a 2km walk through the terminal to find a 7-11 and buy some noodles haha, I went to sleep...
Our plane left at 7am the next morning and we were all delerious and feeling pretty rough. The budget airline we were flying on even charged for water .. again WTF. The whole flight we were passing out and when the plane finally landed it was the roughest landing ever (junior pilot or sumthin). This kinda woke us up and we all dragged our asses off and made it to the terminal.
Once we got there we were the last to fill out our customs forms, barely had enough cash to
Raj and his Cambodian Beer
Chang in Thailand and Klang in Cambodia...how original!!! pay for our visas and we didn't have a picture for our visas... soooo we pretty much thought we were gonna spend our 5 days at the airport or in a Cambodian jail.....
We took a cab to OKAY guesthouse, which turned out to be an OKAY place (well...it was better than OKAY), some of the best beds so far. We slept from 10am to 6pm got up for something to eat (for Will or course). Then we headed back to bed. While we were at dinner some random guy asked us to give blood and offered to do it himself ??? a little sketchy :P We went back to sleep from 11pm until 8am the next morning...
First thing in the morning we headed out to the Killing Fields but the driver took us to a shooting range instead :D This was the best thing yet ... we ended up paying $43 US each to shoot a full clip from and AK-47 and a full clip from a COLT 45 handgun.... check the pics, it was a blast. We met some guy who was going to shoot a rocket launcher for $200 US, they offered to let
Bryan and his Angkor Beer
This was a milestone beer for him too....number 500 of the night!!! Take'r easy there buddy!! him shoot a barrel of gas for $50 or a COW for $600 :O ... we were trying to talk him into shooting the cow...MOOOO. We got some good pics after the shooting with some AK's , Tommy Guns, M16's etc 😊 Again check the pics, by the way doesn't Raj look like a terrorist :P
After the excitement we headed to the Killing Fields (irony at its finest). This place chilled us all out big time. The killing fields were mass graves and extermination camps that contained over 40,000 bodies out of the 3 MILLION that were killed between 1975-79. The people in these camps were beaten to death with canes to save precious bullets. The Khmer Rouge regime led by Pol Pot, was attempting to create an agrarian communist society, in the process they slaughtered foreigners, educated people, government officials, and even people that wore glasses. The husbands of the families where beaten and tortured for confession before they were sent to the mass graves to be killed along with the rest of their family - women, children, and babies included. The pictures below show the extermination camp, some of the bodies unearthed, as well as the
Will and his Beer Laos
This was a milestone beer for him....number 500 of the trip!! Good for you Will!!!! S.21 security center where Pol Pot kept his prisioners, before taking them to the extermination camps and mass graves. It was ackward taking pictures of certain things, we were trying to be respectful as possible.
Although we were tired and burnt out, we moved on to see some of the temples and palaces of Phnom Pehn. Among these were the Royal Palace and Independence Monument. The monument was kinda sketchy, we were scared to go near it because it was in the middle of a huge traffic circle with no rules, and there was nobody to be found. The palace that we went to had many different temples and a cool model of Angkor Wat. Within the complex there is also a silver pagoda which was constructed using 40 tons of silver, we saw the silver plates all over the floor, the pagoda also had over 2000 diamonds, the best being a 25 karat diamond on the forehead of one of the buddha statues.
Oh yeah, during the middle of the day we went to a Russian market, that no longer has any Russian people??? Anyway, we ended up buying 8 shirts for 17$ US .... Will got
Bryan with the Tommy Gun
Say Hello to My Little Friend!!!! No, no, no....not that little friend... in a bartering war and Raj and I stood back and watched him get eaten alive... haha j/k. We came back to our hostel, had a big meal and we were going to just chill out for the night because we have a 6 hour bus ride to Siem Reap the next day. Siem Reap is the gateway to Angkor Wat, where Tomb Raider was filmed ... that's it for now, next update after the temples of Angkor Wat.
