Hello

Surprisingly road travel in Cambodia is quite easy, We hopped straight on a bus from Phnom Penh to Kampot and arrived within 4 hours (Cambodia has very beautiful countryside so went quick). There's no real public buses here so a few private companies operate certain routes.

Nic - We chose to visit Kampot as it's very close to Bokor National Park, home to a ghost town of old Colonial French buildings and more importantly Tigers, Elephants and Leopards to name but a few. You can imagine how upset we were when we went to hire a bike for the day and were told that the park is being developed and the road was shut to individual visitors...the only way to visit is to go through a group tour costing $15+. We really wanted to experience this place on our own and not be rushed around in a group so begrudgingly chose to leave it (We'll be visiting the "Wild East" of Cambodia shortly and hope that this'll fill the gap!) So with our mane port of call of the list we were left to explore the town, Kep and the surrounding countryside.

Dan - Kampot is some what of a dusty town when we arrived there I swear I saw tumble weed flying through.... Nothing but Old French buildings and old shut up shops, loads of character though and a nice place to sit by the river with a cold beer. Kep is about 20km from Kampot it's an old beach town not much to it but we made a nice discovery there.............a crab market! Coming towards the sea we could see a hive of activity and ventured over to find out what was going on....women were running into the sea and dragging great big crab pots out every few minutes. Each one was full - I looked at Nic who was drooling and almost foaming at the mouth at this sight. I know you can't take a kid into a candy shop and leave with nothing, So Nic sniffed out the best hut and we yes WE ordered a Crab dish big enough for two!!!. Mum you will be pleased to know that I loved it and will be eating it again!!

The rest of our time here was spent venturing off around the countryside which is beautiful (see the pics).

Moving on though to Sihanoukville next for a bit of beach action.

More soon.

Following your route with great interest
Hi you two, Glad to see you're really cramming it in, no wonder you need some time to chill out. Dan, you really are starting to look just like me, good job I had a short, back and sides a couple of weeks ago, otherwise folk wouldn't be able to tell us apart, except for the fact that you weigh a little bit more than I do! Only joking, but watch out, the years sure do creep up on you! Keep up the great work on the blog, really makes interesting reading, glad you're both having the time of your lives. Love to you both, from the Old Man

Crabs!!
Well Dan you have really surprised me, eating crabs. You have certainly come a long way from meat, potatoes, stuffing and yorkshires puds, which was all you used to eat as a child!!! The countryside looks really beautiful, apart from all those skulls which are a bit frightening!! Be careful both of you!! Lots of love mum xx
