Hi!
After a 13ish hour trip around Koh Chang, Across to the Thai mainland by ferry, up through Thailand by fairly nice air-con minibus, across the Cambodian border and then into Siem Riep by slightly less nice, much less air-conned bus (still not too bad though, been on worse Magic Busses in Manc) we finally arrived in Siem Riep and got into our room.
We are now braving a fan-only room and have found it isn't too bad really. It makes the room half the price of an air-con room at $5 instead of $10 so probably worth the sacrifice.
Siem Riep suffers from being just a stop off for the (apparently - will update) amazing architecture of Ankhor Wat and the surrounding temples/ruins. As a result there are expensive air conditioned restaurants next to poor beggars and the tuk-tuk drivers are keener than usual.
They also give all prices in US dollars but generally accept their own currency, the Riel, at an exchange of 4000 to a dollar (5000 to a pound).
Still, off to Ankhor Wat tomorrow and will update you from there!
Tim
