First, I have to warn you that this is a long blog entry. This covers the first month of life in Afghanistan, and the current conditions here. I’ve been here a month (as of Jan 30) and have settled into a routine. Life in the ghan is much as it was in Al Asad last year. Making Cupcakes!

For my corpsman's birthday, Maggie and I made cupcakes!

Yummy cupcakes!

They were sooo good! Red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese frosting. Made with 1 can of diet sprite, mixed in a zip loc baggie, poured into cones, and microwaved. :) Pretty good! Next time will be easier because I just ordered a toaster oven.
A Tomato!A Tomato!
A Tomato!

We finally have a little tomato!! I didn't think this day would ever come... This is in the Aerogrow, where the tomato plant has taken over. We can never put the poor plant outside, though, because the last squadron who did said every single piece of green was eaten within 18 hours. That means no outdoors herb gardens either -- fortunately we have grow lights!

We built this a couple of days ago. Mostly just a Sgt who designed it, the Master Guns (on the right), Sergeant Major (on the left), me, and a little help from a Gunney. So much fun but boy was I hurting the next day!

Almost finished

Got the base done, but it needs to be about 6in longer so it doesn't stop in the middle of the door! Once we scare up more wood we'll finish it. It'll have a railing and netting over the top. It's right out back of the squadron, on the flight line.

Had a great time hammering for about 4 hours straight, but earned a sweet blister on my thumb from it.

Thanks!
Thanks for the comment Marie! My mailing address is LT Nicole Cassler, VMM-264 Det A, Unit 77072, FPO, AE 09510-7072. As far as what in particular, I would say that any cookies/brownies definitely go fast. I would love some pictures though if you have any around! I don't have many pictures (actual physical pictures -- do people even make those anymore?) Thanks for thinking of me out here! I'll have to add Andrew to the list. Hope the weather starts turning better there. Looking forward to the next family picnic!
