Article: "As Inflation Soars, Zimbabwe Economy Plunges" by Michael Wines

Question: "What specific pieces of evidence are there that bad government and currupt leadership are causing (or perpetuating) poverty in Zimbabwe?"

In the article, there was a specific line that read "Mr. Mugabe has rejected all calls for economic reform." This supports the idea that having a corrupt leader can lead to a poor economy. Mugabe has aided in an economic crashby seizing all white-owned commercial farms and as a rsult of the economic crash, the government printed more and more money. This large amount of printed money has caused a hyperinflation to top 1000% in Zimbabwe. Also, when the government does sell things to farmers, such as gas, the farmers immediatly sell it on the black market in attemps to make more money back. Mugabe also does not help the economy by keeping all foreign journalists out of the country. Keeping foreign reporters out, theworld cannot truly be exposed to economic issues and cannot make attempts to step in and help.
