Mama Rulas
Is it dinner time yet? Zambia
Our first night was spent in
Lilongwe, the capital city of Malawi and some much needed grocery shopping at Shoprite - the South African supermarket chain - getting the neccessities like water, chocolate and chips. Another long day of driving and we made it through the border to Chipata to a campsite called Mama Rulas. Here we saw New Zealand play their final World Cup game - a good effort again. Not bad for such underdogs to come out undefeated out of their first World Cup showing in 27 years. We heard that more than 2.2m people in New Zealand had got up at 2.30am in the morning to watch the game. Not bad!
We then had one more full day on the road to
Lusaka, the capital of Zambia before arriving at our final destination of
Livingstone the next day. The campsite at Livingstone was relative luxury comparably with piping hot showers and good pressure (the longest we had gone without a proper hot shower was about a week so this was heaven) The campsite also had a lovely bar overlooking the mighty Zambesi river and an internet cafe. On arrival we were taken through the various
Monkeying around
Who stole my crisps? activities to do at the site - mostly involving throwing yourself off things. We both signed up for the sunset "booze cruise" on the Zambesi whilst Brent signed his life away for the triple bridge swing/bungy jump/gorge slide.
Victoria Falls
The entire group visited Victoria Fall the next morning at 10am (so late in the morning we did not know what to do with ourselves!) After a luxury cooked brekky (bacon!!!) we headed in. First to the "dry" side of the falls to take somephotos and then to the wet side. We had our jackets on but every other part of you gets SOAKED by the spray of the falls. The spray was so powerful it was like a torrential rainstorm falling on you! The falls themselves were fantastic. On the dry side you can walk right over to where the water begins to fall and get some great pics and on the wet side...erm...you get wet.
That afternoon we embarked on the sunset cruise, which included dinner and drinks and was a great night out. The next day Brent went for his triple dose of terror while I hung back at camp had a luxury long
The mighty Vic Falls
Don't lose your footing! shower and read a bit of book. In the afternoon we packed up our bags and moved into our permanent tent for our last night. We had a nice group dinner on our last night and spent some time saying goodbye and exchanging details with our group. We also collected our tour t-shirts, indvidually made up with a route of our tour on the back and a few personal touches on the front and sleeves. It was really sad to say goodbye the next morning to catch our flight. In such a small time we met a lot of great people and had some really great experiences. But now we were on our own again and headed for our next adventure:
