The ride to the border was painless and customs was no problem. The
driver on the Zambian side was there to receive us, Djwembele as best
we can spell it. Got to Chipata and did some shopping at the Shoprite
there, got some MTN bundles and he did a little shopping as well.
Finally about 5:00 p.m. we were off.

This was later than we had
hoped but the road is complete until you get to the airport turnoff in
Mfuwe! We made very good time, the road is wide enough as you leave
Chipata that bicycles and people have room to walk on the side without
worrying that someone will run you down!

The last part from the
airport turnoff was the scariest because the road is still narrow, lots
of potholes and plenty of people out walking or on bicycles as we drove
past. Got to the campsite and Victor B. was on duty and glad to see
us. No one had told the workers we were coming so he was surprised to
see. He and Ovid held flashlights and helped us get our tent up and
things inside and then he drove us over for dinner. Nice dinner and
visited with Conrad and guest by the name of Noel who has just gotten in
from a night drive. Back to tent for a good nights rest.
