Relaxing Pool Side
Myself, Jord, Jas and Ryan relaxing at the pool side of Jord's resort. Well, here is what has happened in the last five or six days.
The second last night in Kendwa, Ryan got a fever followed by other symptoms of Malaria. When we got back into Stone Town it was confirmed by the doctor that it was Malaria, and that he needed to take meds. It was only 50 cents Canadian to visit the doctor, and about $5 for the meds... makes me wonder why im paying $6 per anti-Malarial pill (Malarone) which I take one every single day Im here.
Anyways, after getting settled back into the Pyramid hotel in Stone Town, we met up with Jordan for dinner, along with his mom (Georgina) and her husband (Maurice) who are traveling with Jord for about a week. They had flown in, in the afternoon, and were staying at some nice resort just outside of town. Dinner was great, I had an amazing octopus in coconut oil and spicy tomato sauce.
The next day (Tuesday), we headed to Jordan's resort and relaxed at the pool side all day. We drank a few beers, the guys read some books while I listened to some music, and played Jord's Nintendo DS his
Town Top
An over the roof tops shot of Stone Town, from the roof of our hotel. You can see how close the building are from one another, most are only a meter or 2 apart. This creates a net of small lanes everywhere, where no cars can fit. You can wonder endlessly through them and get totally lost, but eventually you will find your way to one side of the town or the other. The only road for cars runs around the outside of the town center. dad had sent him. This little unit is awesome, and I made a point to beat everyone of Jord's high scores he had set on the 20 games or so that came with Mario.
On Wednesday, Jas went with Jord, Georgina and Maurice up along the east coast of Zanzibar Island. Ryan stayed at the hotel, sick with Malaria, and I just walked around to all the shops and did some random sight seeing through out Stone Town. My guide was a local named Salamon who talked in third person and some how had started tagging along with me while I visited the many shops. Salamon explained many of the sites and their history along with his entire life, relegion, family and how he lost contact with a friend he had in Quebec. Before catching up with the guys for dinner, I gave Salamon $5 for guiding me.
Thursday was pretty cool, with Ryan now feeling much better, all six of us headed up into the interior of the island to visit some spice plantations with a tour. We saw many farms growing coconut, nutmeg, curry, ginger, and about thirty other spices I can not remember or can
Resort Sunset
A sunset (or start of a sunset) taken from Jord's resort. not pronounce. After the farms, a delicious lunch was provided which included many of the spices we had seen. We then headed up to visit one the slave chambers used to conceal and store slaves before they were sent to many parts of the world. Finishing up the tour, we relaxed on a beach for an hour where the four of us protected the Indian Ocean (see photo), I got my rookie of the group nut shot (see photo) and we built a human pyramid (again, see photo).
Friday, Ryan and Jas did a little shopping and went up to Jord's resort to visit and relax. I decided I wanted to be a little more adventurous and go to Prison Island for the afternoon. After walking through the streets for about 5 minutes, I heard the familiar voice of Salamon who was excited to see me and was eager to help me on my tasks for the day. Salamon showed me the way to Kenya Airways office where I changed my ticket for Nairobi to Cairo. He then helped arrange a cheap price for travel to and from Prison Island, and took me to a very amazing and cheap

The ride to prison Island was great (about 20 minutes) and I got to feed and pet massive 176 year old tortoises, check out a prison built by the British and relax on the nicest beach I have seen so far on this trip.
Back on the mainland, I met up with everyone for dinner, and then we checked out the festival that was taking place this weekend.
On Saturday we didn't do too much, Georgina and Maurice left and Jord came to stay at our hotel. That night we got pissed on beer and Konyagi (a local gin) shots. Sunday we were all pretty hung over, and just laid around all day.
We are now heading back to Dar Es Salaam (mainland Tanzania), where we will work out our land trip up to Nairobi.
