leopard lake nakuru
Off to change his spots, Lake Nakuru NP, Kenya Some people say that when it comes to Africa, the only positive thing to sy about it is the animals, so to help test the theory we went on safari, and safari and safari.
Heading back into Kenya from Uganda we visited Lake Nakuru National Park in the Rift Valley. Flamingos filled the salt lake in their thousands and we were lucky enough to see elephants, baboons, zebra, pelicans, worthog, waterbuck, bush pigs, giraffe, impalas and rhino just on our first day.
We bushed camped in the middle of the park at night surrounded by a colony of baboons. Just as we were going to bed I shone our flashlight into the darkness of the bush. The eyes of a few hyenas reflected back at me. In the middle of the night the hyenas moved into the camp and it was an interesting time hearing them call to each other around our tent. The next day at first light we managed to see a pride of lions and a leopard too.
Next we made our way into Tanzania to visit the famous Serengeti National Park. The Serengeti is in the main pretty flat and it's big, very
Lion Cubs Lake Nakuru
On their way to being kings of the jungle, Lake Nakuru NP, Kenya big. Antelope, Impala and Zebra grazed on the green savanna, bulking up before their migration to the Masai Mara. The big cats lay in wait and we were lucky enough to see lots of lions and a cheetah in the park.
Heading back from the Serengeti we spent the day at Ngorongoro Crater, an extinct volcano that nows forms a habitat for loads of game. We got up close and personal with a few hyenas which was cool. Check out the photos to see wat it was like.
Whoever said that Africa is all about the animals could well be right. (MD)
