The scenic view of the mountain ranges. Geo: -29.2333, 29.4833
This morning we had a sleep in and then headed off for a hike. I thought we were being a bit too ambitious, as hiking around here seemed strenuous and there were very grey clouds in the distance. Before our hike we registered our details at the office and set off. It was at about half past ten when we left.
At the beginning we were walking along the river. It was the same route that we walked along yesterday on our return from the caves. We were doing a hike that should take us a few hours. At the beginning it was an easy flat walk. Half an hour later we crossed the river over a little well used bridge.
Again we had to cross a little river, but this time there was no bridge. Carefully by stepping on large rocks we made it across. Ten minutes later we came to another river crossing. This time we took off our socks and shoes and walked across. A little while later the thin path went uphill. This is when I started to whinge and complain, although I did enjoy the scenic mountainous views. The clouds did not look any

The scenic view of the mountain ranges. friendlier and seemed to be getting closer and darker. It was not fun walking up the steep hill. From half way up we could see a herd of elands grazing on grass near the river.
The path was tricky to walk up, as across the path, at about 30cm intervals there was a wooden pole. This was suppose to make it easier I believe, but a lot of the soil had eroded away and I think this make the path more challenging. Finally we reached the top and caught our breath as the path was flat again. We seemed so high up now, it was like having our heads in the clouds. The dark clouds continued to be coming closer to us. I still didn't want to continue this hike.
It all started at about 1pm. The clouds opened up. We quickly put our cameras away. Lightning was striking very close to us, thunder rumbled nearby and we were getting very wet. It was pretty scary; there was nowhere to shelter from the terrible weather. We quickly made a decision to return to camp via the way we came. It was not safe to stay out in this weather, especially

The path to the left is the one we took. as we were not prepared for a storm.
For the next hour we were walking in heavy rain. It wasn't fun. We were so drenched that we didn't even bother taking off our socks and shoes to walk through the rivers. It took us over two hours to get back to the chalet. Then it was time to start the fire, have a hot shower and sit back with a cup of tea.
As we had our late lunch, we noticed a pair of dassies outside very close to the chalet. I went out with my camera and watched the little fat animals for a while.
This evening we enjoyed watching TV, as we had not watched it for about a month!
