(N) So after 12 days of sailing through the turquoise seas of the Indian Ocean, we have arrived in Cape Town. It’s winter here, and it does get cold, but it’s really not that bad. Today the sun is shining gloriously, I am sitting in the garden of Matt’s parents’ house and typing against the magnificent backdrop of Table Mountain. It’s the 9th June, two days before kick off, and the Mother City is a sea of flags, abuzz with the sound of vuvuzelas. Tomorrow, Cape Town is holding a huge party in honour of my 30th birthday (the ignorant public calls it the “Cape Town Welcomes the World Party”), the Bafana Bafana shirts are acquired and waiting to be donned, and the city is about to burst in anticipation. We wish you luck, South Africa, both as a host and team. Be yourself, and you’ll be wonderful!
