01 Cape Town
The view of Cape Town from the cable car office. Geo: -33.979, 18.5102
We were running out of days to go and visit Table Mountain. We had been putting it off because of the terrible overcast weather, today was our last chance, so after breakfast we caught a taxi to Table Mountain. It was pretty cold and we weren't even up the top yet.
The view of Cape Town from the cable car office was very grey and the mountain seemed to be covered in cloud. We bought our tickets and had our fingers crossed that the cable car would also be open when we want to come down. Table Mountain has recently become one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature. It only took us a few minutes to reach the top. On the way up the cable car was rotating - I really enjoyed the ride up and wish that it took a little bit longer.
When we got to the top it was all covered in the famous 'tablecloth' of clouds pouring over the sides. We arrived at the top at just the right time because at 10am there was a free guided walk, so we joined in. It was interesting, but after a while we left the group
02 Me
I am taking a photo of grey looking Cape Town. because all we wanted to do was walk around and take photos at our pace and not the group's slow pace.
We spent about an hour and a half at the top walking around. During this time the weather changed so much, one minute it was grey and cloudy with no visibility and the next minute it was sunny and the surrounding suburbs were visible. We noticed a wide variety of plants and flowers, a bird and quite a few dassies.
Luckily when we were ready to leave the cable car was still operating. We caught a taxi back to the waterfront area.
We choose a place with an outside table for our lunch - it was a bakery cafe. From our table we had a great view of the Observation Wheel and a good place to people watch.
I then walked with Rach to the ferry. She was going for a tour of Robben Island and the ferry was leaving at 1pm. I was not interested in going there again and was more than happy to entertain myself at the waterfront area. I spent the next two hours at the beauticians - getting my eyebrows sorted, then at the hairdressers
03 Not Good
The conditions at the top were not looking very good. for a trim and then some gift shopping - as it is Paul's birthday very soon.
The next hour or so I spent at the Aquarium. Rach wasn't interested in going, so this was my chance. I enjoyed walking around the aquarium, my favourite would have to be the penguins. Although they were not as animated as I was expecting them to be. At about 4:30pm I left the aquarium and went to meet Rach. She enjoyed her educational trip to Robben Island.
We spent the rest of the afternoon/evening wandering the waterfront shops and craft markets.
