The sweets that we found on our pillows when we returned from dinner. Geo: -33.979, 18.5102
This morning Paul drove me to OR Tambo airport in Johannesburg. I was meeting a good friend that I have known from university many years ago. Rachel's flight should have landed by now. I wandered around looking for her and then found her at a little cafe. It was strange to meet with her in this part of the world. The last time I had seen her was about 2 years ago in London.
We had some time to spare before our flight. So we caught up with what had been happening in our lives during the past few years over some lunch. While we were here, I decided to do some planning for when Rach has to leave in two weeks time. After our trip to Cape Town, she is coming up to Madikwe Game Reserve with Paul and I and then will have to get back to Johannesburg to fly back to Singapore where she currently lives.
I asked around at the many bus/shuttle desks at the airport. They were all useless and could not assist with any information. All I wanted to know was if they was a bus that goes from Suncity to the airport and

The sweets that we found on our pillows when we returned from dinner. I know that there is, but who operated this route was a mystery. I gave up and said to Rach 'Welcome to Africa', she had travelled extensively around the world and was not bothered by their attitude or lack of information regarding transport services. I told her that we will make a plan for her return from the game reserve back to Johannesburg.
Our flight was at 2:15pm. We decided that it would be best to wrap our bags with plastic wrap. This was the first time I had ever used this service. It was interesting to watch the machine as it wrapped by backpack in a few minutes with quite a few layers of cling wrap.
It was a two hour flight and at about half past 4 we arrived at Cape Town International Airport. On our way out of the airport we picked up a few touristy brochures. As we walked out of the airport there was a ticket booth for the MyCiTi airport shuttle bus. The lady at the ticket booth was very helpful and soon after we were on our way to the city centre. At the city centre we changed onto another clean and punctual bus that would take us to our hotel.
We were staying at The Grand Daddy in Long Street, a hotel that is owned by the same people that I work for in Madikwe Game Reserve. If it wasn't for them and the great rate we would have been at one of the many backpackers in the area.
From the bus I was looking at the map and reading street signs. It was only about a 5 minute drive and then we got off the bus. We checked into our room and then went for a walk to explore Long Street. As we left the hotel, the sun was just beginning to set, so it wasn't too dark yet. I remember from my last visit to Cape Town 5 years, that this street is a happening place, plenty of eateries and bars.
It was an interesting experience walking up and down Long Street. There were a lot of weirdos around - a guy offering us drugs, another following us, another claiming he was a security guard, etc. There were a few people around, so we didn't feel too uncomfortable. After our dinner we returned to the hotel. On our pillows the housekeeping staff had placed a little packet of sweets - what a nice surprise!
We had an early night so that we would be full of energy tomorrow to explore Cape Town!
