Well after my 11 hour flight I have landed in Cape Town to start my 9 month trip. The hostel Ceri and I are staying at is the Back Packer which is located in New Church and has a lovely veiw of Table Mountain which I have taken a photo of just to show off really lol. My first thoughts of Cape Town are not good really as it reminds me of Tenerife it's just a hot place that at the moment is not so hot with a mounting in the middle of it. I am proven so wrong after a few days here the place to me is quiet amazing and we have only just began to see it. Ceri and I did not do much on day 1 was just Settling in but JD and coke is only 19 rand here which is about 1.50 😊
Day 2 we did not really know what to get up to so we took the big red tour bus around cape town along the big red tour route we saw table mounting, camps bay, the Clifton beaches which all looked amazing but the weather is not to great in fact with
the wind about it is cold I am wearing my hoody and combats. We ended up at V&A waterfront where we had a look around the shops and spent a few hours in the aquarium. From the aquarium we went to green market square where you can buy lots of pointless crap that once you got it home you would not like it anymore. Talk a nice walk through company gardens before heading back to the red bus that dropped us off just down the road from our hostel, I now been here 2 days and have not spent 50 quid so things are quiet cheap here.
Day 3 was a really slow start to the day but it was planning all the amazing things that we are going to do in South Africa. Next week we have booked a 7 day trip from Cape Town to Addo which travels from cape town to Cape Agulhas, Oudtshoom, Strom River, Avoca River cabins, and Port Elizabeth before heading back to cape town. Also we booked 4 days in Kurger which is at the end of our trip in South Africa. For the rest of the day we just went for
a walk along cambs bay beach and the fouth to fist beaches before we took a long walk back to the water front. At night the hostel had a BBQ on where we started to mingle with a few other people and once the Jack Daniels started to flow I was talking for England to a nice guy called Lee from Derby. People that our reading this and know me know I hate food well tonight I was brave and tried some fish called snook and loved it 😊
Day 4 was road trip day down to Cape Point we left the hostel and set off on the hour or so trip. On the way we went through a lot of little lovely towns called Muizenberg, st James, Kalk bay, Fish Hook, Sunny cove, Simon's Town, Boulders Beach where we stopped to see the Penguins. We continued down to cape point where once there we walked as closed to the edge as we were allowed as it was a really windy day the trek took around 2 hours. After the trek we went for a meal in the restaurant which I had a flamed grilled baby chicken that
was flipping hot but I managed to eat it all which is quiet amazing for me as I don't like hot stuff. Half was through our meal this Baboon came from no where walked across 2 tables and stole this woman's burger, the thing was not little either but there no way I would of gave up my burger with out a fight, but did make me laugh how is chose the burger over everything else.
Day 5 was shark diving day. The day involved going to a place called Gansbaai which was about a 3 hour drive away. Once there and on the boat it was of to see the sharks and I have to admit I was excited to be getting in this cage to see the sharks.......... Once the boat got to the point where the boat crew would try and get the sharks attention, I got bloody sea sick with in seconds. I am happy to say though I managed to hold out until it was my turn to get in to the cage then I was at the front of the boat feeling like shit for 2 hours before we went back to land.
Apart from feeling sick all day I did really enjoy the cage diving and would love to do it again some day but I really can not hack being on a boat I think every time I been on a boat I have been sea sick 😊 At night we went to the bar where with our new found friend Jamie, Little Lee, Big Lee, Richard, and ended up down to long street in a Irish bar where some live music was being played. I had one few to many JD's and was back at the hostel at 3am where I past out in seconds lol.
Day 6 Table Mounting. Today Ceri, Jamie and myself deiced to go and walk up table mounting. With a cracking hang over from the night before and with the weather now being 28 degrees and no wind I was thinking mmmmmmm this might not be such a good idea but thought what the heck. We was going to take a route up the mounting called Platteklip Gorge about 10 mins in to the trip we must of took a wrong turning and ended up back near the lower cable station. We then say
some random guy taking this dangerous route so thought we follow with out reading the danger sign which I'll come back to in a min ........ This route was really fun it was not walking it was climbing and after 2 hours of climbing we got to a point where you could just not go any further unless you were some sort of spider man so Ceri, Jamie and I headed back down to the ground which took another 2 hours. Once we got to the bottom I thought it would be a good idea to read the sign.
WARNING EXTREMELY DANGEROUS ROUTE WITH STEEP ROCK CLIMBING AND DIFFICULT NAVIGATION DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS ROUTE IF INEXPERIENCED.
So far the first week has really just been like a nice week holiday and I have spent far to much already 1000 pounds. With most of the next 2 weeks paid for I believe I can now budget? I also believe the next 2 weeks we will see the real South Africa and the trip of a life time will really Begin ..........
I will try and keep you all posted but the net over her is just rubbish.
Cold
The sea here is really cold can you tell
