The Journey to Windhoek

We have taken the overnight flight to Jo'Burg, pretty comfortable, fairly empty. Arrive in Jo'Burg a bit bleary-eyed. The nytol has taken it's toll, but at least there's no jetlag. Jo'Burg a very impressive airport, as these things go - and we take an internal flight to Windhoek.

The scenery over Botswana and the Kalahari desert and into Namibia looks awe-inspiring and pretty desolate at the same time. No offence to any Celts, but the emptiness kind of reminded us of flying into Inverness - nothing built up around. A lot of clear air turbulence as we came into land - can see why they call it Windhoek! Our transfer taxi driver give us our first taste of ironic Namibian humour.

We stay in the Chameleon Backpackers Lodge, which is really nice. Sue's first animal in Africa is rather strangely a husky/border collie cross, the resident 'guard dog'.

First game animal eaten this evening - oyrx. Slightly stringy rich taste, but absolutely delicious with pepper sauce. Feel a bit guilty for eating an animal that I haven't even seen yet!
