The Non CheatersChester and Kirsten paddling in circles. Notice the synchronization of the paddles. Any wonder why we were going in circles?
Fun and Games
We are doing our best to get the mountain of pictures out that we took. Definitely we will not get them all out, but have a few more we thought you might enjoy. You have seen some of the animal we saw and the places we stayed, now thought we'd show you some of the cool things we did in Africa.
Starting in South on the Orange River dividing Namibia and South Africa we did a relaxing canoe ride on the Orange River. Since we had 3 of us, one of us had to go with the guide. As we are all 3 lazy we all wanted to be with guide. What is the fairest way to determine this you ask? Rock, Paper Scissors of course. That is unless you have one cheater in the group (Lynn). But not mentioning any names. So Chester and Kirsten ran circles around the guide and the Cheater oops Lynn. When we refer to circle we are literally talking circles and they could not row in a straight line if their lives depended on it.
In Namibia we did quite a few game drives, but we also hiked up
The CheaterLynn with the guide. This pciture is deceiving as 99.999% of the time Lynn was kicking back while guide was paddling. She was just posing for the camera. Her paddle never got wet.
the Dune 45 to see a beautiful sunset and then hiked down it to have lunch. Then if that was not enough hiking in the sand we partook in some sandboard. This is done in 2 ways standing and laying. The standing is just like snowboarding with same gear. Differences being that you wax your board with car wax on every run, and there is no lift to take you up the dune. After 3-4 runs if definitely wears you out. The second form of snowboarding is laying down on a piece of Formica and sledding down the dune. Reaching speeds of 76 MPH and in Kirsten's case wiping out at 75 MPH. Al though this was fun, it does put sand in every crack and crevice and a few we didn't even know we had. We have a great video of the sand boarding that I will try to load on U-tube and send the link. Immediately after this Kirsten, with much sand still attached did a tandem sky dive as Chester and Lynn were not up to the thrill? Unfortunately there is no photographic evidence of this. But trust her, it was awesome. Pictures would not do it
justice.
The next days were filled with animal drives and sightings. We did get to one camp site in time to do an awesome hike up the plateau that gave us an amazing view of the area. This was following by our 2 nights in the Delta. With transport via the Mokoros.
With more game drive and boat rides our final day in Victoria Falls we had our last change to do our activities. This is where we did the gorge swing, similar to a bungee jump. zip line across the gorge, and repelling the cliff down to the bottom of the. Then followed by an awesome sunset helicopter ride into the gorge and over the falls. A perfect way to end a great vacation.
We're fallingThe sand is not that stable and more than once we were off to the side.
I think I can, I think I canOn the way up Dune 45 trying to figure out if it is all worth it and what my Dr. would be saying. It was worth it. And I quit caring what he says a long time ago.
I'm HungryLynn on the way down Dune 45 and ready for Breakfast.
The VleiReally cool place that used to have water and the only trees around at Sossusvlei Namibia.
Not the Best ShoesOkay maybe Keens weren't the best shoes for the desert. Had to empty them about every 10 min.
Pretty in PinkEven in the sand Kirsten is pretty in Pink. Well a bit orange at the end of the day with all the sand covering her.
Miss America WaveChester got enough guts to lift one hand and give the Miss America Wave to the photographer.
Wipe OutAlthough Kirsten had by far the best wipeout, only Lynn's was caught on film.
Notice the HillNotice how big the hill is in relation to us. Yes we hiked that hill many times. Each time a bit slower.
