Steps to Paradise!
For those of you only reading this blog to read about any misfortune that may come our way I'd get back to work and steer well clear of any more of the Tofo photos. Never have the words of the Fresh Prince sounded so apt. 😊 So we "adjusted the bass and let the iPod blast" ... bizarrely enough shuffle played us The Bends by Radiohead - spooky seeing as we had just arrived in a dive resort! Not as weird as it playing Steve Biko by Tribe Called Quest as we landed in Jo'berg. I swear my iPod has intuition. Anyhoo I digress ...
When we said we were going traveling and were starting the adventure in Mozambique - most people asked why there. Well ladies and gentlemen if you take a look at the attached pictures you will see why - (smug grin from us)
We endured a typical Africa bus ride that took about 10 hours to travel 300kms up the coast to the province of Inhambane and a small beach resort called Tofo. It is really just a long golden beach banked with some sand dunes and then a thin forest of palm trees. We found ourselves a cool backpacker’s hostel amongst the palm trees, rented a hut and got down to some serious chilling. It was a great place to hang out, the lodge we were in had
Our Hut...
(...in the middle of our beach!). A hut, a bed, a mosquito net...oh and one of the most beautiful beaches in the world! What more could anyone need? (Actually I can think of loads of things but that's not the point!) this fantastic restaurant on top of the dunes overlooking the beach. All made out of wood, a 360 degree balcony for catching sunrise and sunset, Jack Johnson and the Chili Peppers on the stereo and very cheap local beer. Happy days! Our 2 day visit quickly got extended and in the end we opted to stay put rather than head further up the coast to a more expensive resort.
We spent Saturday doing an Ocean Safari - which was AMAZING!! Not only did we see dolphins and a turtle from the boat but we got to snorkel with some seriously big wildlife! We saw a number of Whalesharks - now these are big fellas ranging from 5 to 12m long and Vegetarian. They were so chilled, we spent a good 5 mins swimming alongside one, almost eyeball to eyeball and he seemed almost as curious as we were. Later we found a Giant Manta Ray (a ray without the Sting) and were able to snorkel above it for ages too - it must have measures 4m across, bigger than any ray I had seen before. We did try to put the new underwater Camera to the test, although we
Jumping for Joy
1000 words couldn't do this picture justice. Well, not 1000 words I could write anyway. I guess that's why I'll stick to taking the pictures and let J do the writing! have far from mastered it - most of the shots came out blue. A couple came out though and the best one is attached …
This weeks likes:
*Mozambique dining - these guys really now how to cook!
*Swimming with giant fish
*Walking along the beach after sunset and seeing hundreds of crabs scuttling along the sand as they get caught in the torch light.
This weeks dislikes:
*Lack of surf on our first visit to a surf beach - I don’t have much luck at finding waves!
*Mosquitoes - they seem to hurt more when they could be carrying Malaria. Lets hope the drugs do work
*England v South Africa at Rugby - We did have to wait until I was watching the game in a room full of South Africans to get beaten by them for the first time in years. We were shocking!
