from the masterpiece of Islamic architecture, through souks and eating sheep brain, 5h camel ride and feeding a desert puppy, to the well deserved beach time
Since India always wanted to go to Morocco as it supposed to be similar in a way....the way people behave, the way streets look like etc At least that is what friends told us....relatively close to UK, relatively cheap flights and stay...we said why not lets see.... the major downside of working full time is your holiday allowance and the fact that you cannot just go for long....hence the 10 days we could spare were planned very intensively to see whatever we could in this short time;-)
So we visited 5 different places: Casablanca - where we flew just to see The Mosque of King Hessian II, Marrakech - for obvious souks and atmosphere of Djemaa el Fna, Quarzazate in Atlas Mountains to see movie production studios, Zagora - for the desert drip, and finally Agadir for some beach rest;-)
We made a decision to fly to
Casablanca, despite more pricy flight rates, because of our interest in Islamic architecture. Casablanca and The Mosque of King Hessian II were interesting
but I guess we really expected sth more of a scale of Taj Mahal... I cannot say it was disappointing as still very impressive to see a building of which almost half of the surface lies over the Atlantic water and it has amazing works of granite, marble and mosaics. Except for that the place is pretty boring and not that much going on....We only stayed there one night and following day made the way to Marrakech by train.... it was 4 hour trip but surprisingly comfy and nice;-)
Marrakech - what can I say...amazing, astonishing, incredible...the place, the architecture, the food and the atmosphere make it all. It was so nice to just wander around the souks and small markets all day.Warm colours, strong spicy smell and really nice people;-) Some of them tried to get money from us, try to pretend to be friends in exchange for a 'tip' but it still would not be able to spoil the great mood we were in;-) Djemaa el Fna is one of a kind place...as huge food lovers we went from stall to stall and tried probably everything we could within the 3 day stay there hhaha Lamb Brain
and snails were the weirdest hahha
From Marrakech we booked forward trip to
Atlas Mountains - 2 day excursion visiting small oasis, Quarzazate, Zagora and sleeping on the Sahara Desert.... we previously did camel trip in Jaisalmer but this was different....we were slipping under the tent - yuppi - and I found a little puppy;-) Desert dog really hungry and thirsty....shared my morning milk with him and put him to bed - I think Bedouin people were very surprised to see a puppy sleeping in a bed when they went to clean it hahha The only think that dissapointed me was that the Film Studio trip was not really planned by this company and in the end most of the people in our van did not want to join us, so we were voted out 😞I dont really understand how somebody can come such a long way and not even try to see everything..... but hey, everybody is different. On the way back from Zagora we ask the driver to drop us off in the nearest town and we took a 11h bus to Agadir to finally have some beach time and do nothing;-) It was not the nicest
trip ever and it was really cold at night (front window was not closing up) but we made it and it was most important.
Agadir was nice but nothing special - seemed all new and very resorty type of a place.... just maybe not our kind of place;-) Too modern, too touristy in a way.... we had a good time anyway, wandering around gardens and town, climbing the nearest hills to get the view on the beach, having picnics with local people and drinking wine from a plastic cup in the park (as alcohol is really difficult to get and not allowed in public).... overall very lazy and relaxing which was the point of going there;-)
