The top of the falaise was rock, rock and more rock, appeared to be ironstone on sandstone...& we went up and down, by, and along until we rocked into Konsogou-Ley for a cup of tea, and "Welcome, welcome, you are very welcome" from our host as he played his own composition on his dogon guitar...and of course we danced...and hugged as we left...a very special time...and a highlight of the trek.
Further rock hopping, climbing, winding, up, down and around...until we arrived at Dourou...a village split in half by a massive crack in the rock...and that is what there was...rock, rock and more rock...1,000 people living there...in a severe landscape...
The accomodation was not condusive to pleasant sleeping...all inside, windowless and no free rooves...so we mixed with the locals...playing soccer, plaiting hair, money to the womens' co-operative... then sadly left... to a nightclub in Bandiagara...for a shin dig for Sam's birthday...travelling for miles & miles across the rock platform...past onion fields with its sweet pungent aroma...wherever water is trapped in the rock......past people returning from market...roads jammed with market populace as we fight through the dark streets of
ROCK ON ROCKOnly goats & the Dogon could live on here
Bandiagara to our hotel...
Showers and party clothes...welcome to the Nightclub...music cranked up...Hamma has had a birthday cake made for Sam...2,000 cfa each for Mike & I for the New Years Eve party...free for the girls...many G & Ts...dancing till we dropped...then crashing in a bed that is hard but maybe heaven...metres from the Nightclub...
The music stopped at 4.10 a.m. New years Day...so we got no sleep after all!
Welcome to Dogon Country...
Enjoy & Relax...

My wife Denise & I like to travel "on paths less travelled" that capture our imagination, inspire my photography & where we mix with locals & remain safe.
