Or Simien Fox. Whatever you want to call it, it's one of the rarest canines in the world.
From our base camp at the Bale Mountains National Park we set off early in the morning and drove four hours up to the Sanetti Plateau with the goal of seeing the rare Ethiopian Wolf in its natural habitat. We were incredibly lucky as we saw several of them snacking on the numerous rats that were running around. They were very close to the road and weren't phased much by the presence of our truck (although they moved on pretty quickly). We then drove up to the observation point at the summit at approximately 4300 meters above sea level.

That night was Kathie's turn to cook dinner and the helpful staff at the base camp generously offered to kill a lamb so that we could enjoy some meat. His name was Spotty. ;-)

After dinner we enjoyed a relaxing time in the sauna.
