Our game drive in chobe.
Chilly Start
Up at 5am for the game drive, another wonderful early start. As we emerged from the tent, an elephant trumpeted loudly, sounding really close by. Apparently, our guide had to chase him off the campsite because the staff had left the gate open - scary stuff! Definitely prefer the friendly mongoose family that were running riot around the camp. We all piled onto the open Land Cruiser, realising we had left all our warm gear on the truck. On the journey we dodged antelope lurking in the dark road and a herd of big buffalo munching away on the roadside.

The Game Drive
Entered the National Park at sunrise and immediately drove by a hyena, lolloping off into the bush, as we listened to its eerie laughter. We journeyed along the Chobe riverbank and spotted lots of impala, antelope and hippo. We discovered a small pride of lions nestled in a bush, munching away on their breakfast, a nice bit of leg in the morning. Yum yum! We spotted a new animal on the game drive, a monitor lizard basking in the morning sunlight. We were all pretty tired and kept nodding off, only to be woken

to say "Morning!" to a bunch of giraffes.

The Barber Shop
Back at the camp, the lazy half of the group who missed the game drive were up for brekkie. All except Gav. So Eddie and Ryan planted a huge pile of elephant poo right outside his tent. The camp kitchen was transformed into a barber shop for the morning, with Gayle as principal hair stylist and Ryan the apprentice, doing the sweeping up. Mike braved a Mohician, Edd went for his usual Grade 2 and Jase was adventurous and had a Grade 4. Oh no, you can see all the grey hair now.

Sunset Cruise
In the evening we enjoyed a quiet drink on a sunset cruise down the Chobe River. We got a close look at lots of different animals, including elephants, hippos, kingfishers, kudus, monitor lizards and southern yellow hornbills.

Planet Baobab
The next day we drove towards the Okavango Delta, stopping overnight at Planet Baobab. Had to hop off the truck at random Foot & Mouth checkpoints to stamp on silly sponge mats to clean our shoes. The campsite was marked by a strange huge concrete Aardvark. The resort was really cool with

cosy cowhide chairs, encircling mini fires, and it had a big chandelier made out of beer bottles. We decided to stay in the tent for the night, as we didn't fancy the tiny thatched Bushman huts - think of the spiders!
