After a little deliberation as to which direction to take we headed for Llangollen. Remind me never ever to come away without the road atlas in future. It really does challenge our abililty to plan the route to whereever we are going, The Satnav is fine except it does like to take us on roads which we would prefer not to be on. There are some exceedingly narrow roads here in Wales with wonky stone walls on either side and many blind hair pin bends. Quite often we have had to breath in in order for the vehicle coming the other way to get past. Fortunately we have only had the car to consider. A couple of roads we used went across bridges with low walls on either side which would have grabbed the Caravan if ... read more

We left the extremely quiet village of Derwen behind us . Silly Sat Nag was asked to take us back to Ruthin . We had a choice . We could drive back down the narrow lanes or turn the other way and try a different route to the main road. The different route was hardly any better . It would be nightmare in the winter when the roads were icy or blocked with snow . Years ago I might have thought lovely to live in such a rural environment but now the thought of driving in and out along these roads did not appeal in the slightest . Up and down the road we drove. We came to a junction and hoped the road would widen. I never did for a while until eventually we ended ... read more

"Derwen is the welsh word for oak trees " I said . There must have been many oak trees here in the past . The driver in the car with no name was not really giving his attention to my utterings. He was negotiating the road . Well road was perhaps exaggerating. We may well have been driving Clint down a road according to the inbuilt BMW sat nav system but what we were on was clearly not really a road . Calling it a lane would be nearer the truth but still a long way from being the truth. In the end we thought path might be the best option . There was just enough room for the car with no name to pass along although the mirrors sticking out could cause problems here and ... read more

Ziggy found herself being driven out of Wrexham County Borough to the nearby county of Denbighshire . So what were we doing going out to Ruthin a town we lived in for 7 years ? We were picking up a CARN card which would allow us access to all the records offices that were part of this Archive scheme . We had once had CARN cards . The old blue and white paper copies with our address on the back and signature and with a photo stuck on the front . Gone were those days . Now an application had to be made on line , a photograph uploaded and an appointment made at a records office to pick up the card once identities had been checked . We only had a choice of two days ... read more

Tuesday - another day and another house. Another town too. Wrexham . What would I if I were a visitor think of Wrexham? As we drove through I thought it shabby, unloved with many empty shops. Devoid of any character . It was not the town I remembered fondly of as a child. Then it was an hive of activity with bustling shops, markets and people . So many people coming in to do their weekly shop. We passed the Lemon Tree Restaurant . That used to be the Denbighshire Education Committee offices . Sandwiched in between 60's monstrosities and Victorian handsome villas . We wondered if today was going to be "our" house . Not too finished . Not too perfect . Somewhere we could leave our mark on . How hard was it turning ... read more

Gabby the motorhome , Sion and us two are currently sitting high above the Vale of Clwyd. It is a glorious view . We are parked up on an empty car park at the Clwyd Gate Public house . A pub with a view. It was a pub some while ago but sadly has closed down . Behind is now an empty motel . It looks dilapidated and rather sad. Why a Travel Lodge has never bought the place I never know. Living here in the past we loved the place . We always treated it as a visitor would . We always looked at the Vale through fresh eyes. The Clwydian Hills forming a backdrop which now is tinged purple with heather. Ruthin is such a pretty town . The red sandstone of the local ... read more

Thursday - another day . We made the decision early to cancel our house viewings for tomorrow . We thought what's the point . Yesterdays viewers had not come back to us . We had a plan if they rang to see two houses and meet up with Sions best friend Woolly Mammoth . It was with a sadness that we cancelled the visit to Sions friend . He had been waiting two years to see his best friend . So he was disappointed . "Disappointed - I was gutted . So gutted I had to raid the fridge and eat all the strawberries and cream I found there . So gutted that I ate all the crisps and the chocolate biscuits . So gutted I refused to talk to anyone " Sion sadly ate us ... read more

Travelled from Llandudno to Liverpool. Took a trip through Llanrwst, passed Betws-Y-Coed, through Corwen were held up by two trucks with moveable bogeys carrying bases for wind turbines. On to and through one of our favourites, Llangollen, then for a lunch stop at Horseshoe Pass before heading to Widnes (Model train shop, Hattons) then to Liverpool.... read more

What a difference a week makes. This time last week the weather was pretty miserable with 4" of snow covering the ground. Spring seemed a long way off. This week the clocks have gone forward, the sun is shining and finally it does feel as if we are heading for some decent weather. We were heading for Wales to get a final hair cut before our holidays. Feet have been pampered and Gabby has her seats and table in together with some of the things we need for a holiday. First the holiday is on, then through unforeseen circumstances it was off. This week it is back on again although in a shortened form. Probably two weeks in France rather than the usual 4 weeks. We probably wont make the sun of the south rather we ... read more

Woolly says – It’s been a busy week for me, whilst the girls have been providing refreshment for the county and beyond I’ve been brushing up my golfing shots. The lovely pro here, Lewis, says I have five handicaps which I think is pretty good, the only problem being that to bring my score down further I need to lose my paws or brain…. I’m working on that conundrum! A day off however provides the opportunity to go and investigate more of the area. I think that this is a possible first of many for us as our planned visit is to a place that Zoe and I have both been to when she was small and the mammoth hadn’t taken over our lives! Woolly says – Through the windy roads we went, the swing backs ... read more
