In 2026 - if I am still employed at that time and can afford it - I would like to travel to the 7th continent: Antarctica.
Can anyone give me some tips and tricks and I am sure other people would be interested as well.
At the moment I know two providers for expedition cruises to Antarctica:
Hapag Lloyd and Hurtigruten.
I want to keep it as cheap as possible (still I see prices for single cabins for over 10.000 Euros) and think about a more or less 2 week cruise starting at the southern end of South America to the solid continent of Antarctica in January till March 2026. Falkland Islands or Montevideo would we a welcome add-on as I already look forward to visit Buenos Aires in 2025 as part of another trip.
Hurtigruten seem to be cheaper as Hapag Lloyd and I would have no concerns to join an English language tour.
Reply to this I am susceptible to sea sickness so any plans I have would avoid the Drake Passage! You might look into cruise ships that stop in southern Argentine or Chile to see if they have shore excursion via jet to Antarctica. I found one a few years ago for about $3000 which is much cheaper and pleasanter than cruising to Antarctica.
