Go to any of the backpackers in Cartagena and there will be information on boats & captians. We stayed at the
near the old town and there was loads of information there. Also, go down to the marina where they come in and there are posters and bits and peices up. Reply to this Tha same here... we are planing to go from California to Peru by Car and this gap seems to be a big question... It seems that the Capitan tour by bout could be a perfect way...
Does anyone have the email or web? PLEASE...
Thanks a lot Barbora
Reply to this Hi - what are you planning on doing with you car once you get to Panama? You have to be very careful as friends of ours sold / gave away their car in nicaragua as they found it more hassle than it was worth, then then werent allowed to leave the country for weeks until the dealt with the car....plus you wont be able to take the car to the south easily! Buses are easy & cheap...as for boats to Cartagena just head to Lunas castle hostel in Panama and they can sort you out....
Reply to this Hi the think is that we still didn't decide what's better... eather to go by car and have our kites with us... so we could kite whenever it's possible 😉 and also be more flexible with the car.. stop where we want and see what we want/...
Or go by bus... which seems to be cheap, but that would be just with our backpack.. no kiting 😞
Or there is the selling option... ??? I really don't know what to decide for... 😞
Any help?
Reply to this Honestly, I know our friends (they left from San Diego) found the car a real hassle in terms of parking / roads / directions / borders etc & thats why they wanted to leave it.....there are loads and loads of adventure activties etc on that trail & we were never short of anything to do from volcano boarding to diving to hikes etc..............
Reply to this From Panama City you can get a 18seater plane to Puerto Abaldia ,get your exit stamp from Panama and get on a speed boat ,lancha, to Capurgana. Here you get your entry stamp to Colombia.
.In Capurgana go to Cabanas Darius.Joseph Silver owns this budget hotel. He is a Hawaian native who is married to a local lady Nery.It is such a beautioful place tucked away in the jungle and Nery is an incredible cook.
There are many jungle walks including 1.5hrs through the jungle to Panama and horse treks deep into the Darien Wilderness.
Joseph will help you get another lancha to Turbo and from here you can travel to Cartegena or Medallin.
This is a great adventure I've done a few times now.
Reply to this Sorry if my answer is repetitive, I got dizzy reading all the responses.
Pretty much all hostels have contact with captains. The one I used is Zuly´s Hostel in the Financial District of Panama City. Info on boats on their website. There are several departures every month. There were two options at the time that I was looking:
1. Short trip (3 days): $250. One day in Provenir in the San Blas archipelago and two days for the crossing.
2. Regular trip (5 days): $395. Three days in San Blas, two days crossing the sea.
Both include food and water. BYOB. You arrive to Cartagena.
You can fly for about $100 on some local airline. You will not be able to pass through the Darien Gap. Besides being a retarded idea, you´ll just be turned back by the police.
Feel free to message me if you have any other question.
Reply to this Hey so I am going to be making that trip in June and was wondering if you could get me info to get in touch with that boat captain. It would be much appreciated! I don't want to die going by land lol 😊

There are boats that will go from Panama to Colombia from Colon Zone area.
Lot of Colombians use this mode of travel because it is inexpensive.
Obviously you other options are Copa Air and Air Panama. But that is not
your cup of tea.
