Birmingham I think this is my first blog entry I've read on "Brummie Land". I've been to Birmingham a number of times, but it's interesting to read it from a visitor's perspective and as a travel blog. It sounds like you may have met a Hare Krishna member. I'm always interested to meet with fellow spiritual people, even though they may be an a different path to me. There's much to learn there I think. Sorry to hear your travel woes seemed to continue, though good to hear you had a nice time in Birmingham, and that the sun was out there! 😊
Re: Birmingham Thank you! Yes, I must admit I was pleasantly surprised by the city. Good point, the guy I talked to could definitely have been a Hare Krishna member. I agree, it is nice to people who follow the spiritual path, there is always something we have in common and something to learn. My last trip to and from Birmingham in April / May this year went smoothly, though, so I was very happy and grateful.
London Great! I feel all caught up on these trips now - your journeys there, time on retreats, and journeys back again. I often pass through St Pancras and King's Cross Stations on my way to and from Sheffield, but I have rarely been behind them. Your blog has given me inspiration to explore a bit more there! The Coal Drops Yard area looks lovely, and a good haven for you as you bridged the gap between quiet retreat and busy London. Great photos from the London Eye!
Re: London Thank you for coming along on my trips and for commenting. I think I would not have gone to explore Coal Drops Yard had I not had my hotel just around the corner and had the other retreatant not recommended it to me. I very much enjoy exploring sites off the beaten tracks, hope you will enjoy the area too when you get there.
Holy Island Thank you Katha. I'm afraid I didn't write a blog entry on my time on Holy Island. Some day I think I'll write up on my other travels that I have done outside of TB. All the best.
Re: Holy Island Okay, thanks for letting me know. Yes, there is always so much more that one could write about... So, I will keep following your more recent trips.
Peaceful Ah, so peaceful just simply reading this blog. The photos also add magic to the place. I understand the beautiful feeling of walking in the fog, I enjoy this myself too. And thank you for the reminder that England does have this fantastic and very deep spiritual sense that you can find between the urban busy-ness. Lovely to read about your retreats. I used to attend Triratna Buddhist sessions here in Croydon, and also visited Holy Island once just off the coast of the Isle of Arran in Scotland. Thank you for the reminders of the value in meditation. A lovely blog to read.
Re: Peaceful Thank you so much for the appreciative words, Alex. Yes, there can be so much magic, peace and quiet out there when one is open to it. Nice to learn that you are not only a fellow TBer, but also a fellow meditator. If you have a blog post on your visit to Holy Island, do let me know. I would love to read it.
I started this blog in late 2007, before heading off to Australia for a hang gliding adventure. After my first solo flight in a hang glider all I wanted to do was fly as much as possible. I gave up my job as a human resources consultant and headed to Australia to live my dream of hang gliding. When I returned after four months, I wanted to build my life around the sport I loved so much, and I did. I was also determined to make it into the national hang gliding team and started flying competitions with only one year of flying experience.
