May 28, 2024 Tuesday Glacier Bay and Icy Strait Point…throw in a whale painting session and tea…. At 9:45 am our cruise liner was in Glacier Bay and arrived at Margerie Glacier. All I can say is “Wow” … Margerie is on the Alaska side and is a glacier where calving is frequent. Perhaps you aren’t familiar with calving (I wasn’t) in this instance it means ice chunks breaking from the huge glacier, and she did not disappoint… Margerie came unglued several times. As we traveled to Icy Strait Point from Margerie, we were delighted to see a few whales along our journey. During our sailing time, I strolled down to the main dining room for a splendid high tea, after an afternoon of painting. We arrived at Icy Strait Point around 6pm and immediately headed ... read more

Movie Nights on MSN has a list of twenty places. Unfortunately, I have been to some of them. I hate to dwell on the negative, but at least you have been forewarned not to go. Have you ever gone somewhere and regretted it? My missteps are your gain! Some Reddit users shared their experience when visiting Stockton, California. They remember seeing armed guards at everyday places like McDonald’s, which made things seem strange. Others remember it as a place where there was a lot of crime, especially violent crimes like murder. But even with all the problems, Stockton has some really good places to eat, like Gian’s Deli and De Vinci’s, where you can get great food. Despite the challenges, Stockton’s food scene is something that people still enjoy, showing that even in tough places, there ... read more

Had a very relaxing morning, as the pick up for our glacier, Prince William Sound, cruise was not until 9:30. Felt really good to veg a little and not have to be out the door for 8:00. The van was prompt and brought us to the docks where we checked in, then got in line to board the boat. We had decided on one of Stan Stephens glacier and wildlife cruises that included going to the Columbia Glacier. The early morning had started out with light rain, and very low hanging clouds. We were all quite concerned about what we would be able to see if the weather did not improve. But, low and behold, as we began to board the sun started to peek through and just got brighter as the morning wore on. Our ... read more

Look out Snoopy - here we come! The Charles Schulz Museum in Santa Rosa has preserved and displayed the comic art of the Peanuts characters that are so well loved. Vibrantly coloured statues and wall murals abound not only on the property and in the gardens but also throughout the city of Santa Rosa. For 50 years Charles Schulz featured children facing everyday challenges, most of which he suffered through as a child. He had the ability to make these problems seem funny. The museum not only features his comic strips but also displays a timeline of his life including his enlisted time in WWII. A recreation of his studio where he spent most of those 50 years is on the second floor. A great way to finish off the museum tour is light lunch in ... read more

On the road at 8:20 today with a quick stop at the gas pumps to drop a quick $117. Gas here is $4.29 per gallon, and I'm sure the price will continue to increase. Being that these RV's get around 9 miles to a gallon the fuel costs are quite high. I will have a total expenditure at the end of the trip. We all loved the Tok RV Village as it was clean, had trees, and the spots were not on top of each other. It was a welcome treat after our last stop. We saw a couple of Great Alaskan Holiday rigs there also enjoying the stop. I met a couple that had driven all the way from Florida. They are taking an unlimited amount of time to tour the country and said the ... read more

What an odyssey we have been on. I don't even know where to begin. I guess we should start where we left off in the last blog. So jump back on your time machine and set it for the last few weeks of May. Ready? Good. Once April ended, almost all our friends had left Tropical Palms for their home destinations. We carried on our morning coffee klatch with just a few friends and no tent. Times were a’changing. Hopefully, you remember my tragic story about our special Princess bed mattress that I shared with you in the last blog. Because Cory refused to strap it to the roof of our car, Plan B had to go into action. We drove to Winter Park to try out a Saatva mattress that our daughter, Kim, recommended. They ... read more

After a good night's sleep, we woke up fairly late, got dressed and headed out the door, on our way to the nearest WalMart. I figured out how to get there by bus, bus 406 and 407, and sure enough, after quite a ride we got there. The shopping center where the WalMart was located, was quite something, with dozens of restaurants, stores, and other places, beside a very unusual WalMart at one end. We actually had to ask someone how to get inside! You had to go down the entrance to the parking garage and around to the door, then up an escalator. Check out the photo. It was a fairly large WalMart with a lot of oriental foods. Manoli had heard that Vancouver was 65 percent oriental, so I guess that makes sense. Also, ... read more

Tubby’s is a great place for breakfast - take my word for it. Two French toast with syrup, 2 eggs sunny side up, 2 pieces of bacon and endless coffee. I may not have to eat again until tomorrow! A relaxing stroll in Armstrong Woods should work off some of those calories. The grove is a living reminder of the magnificent primeval redwood forest that covered this area before logging destroyed much of it. This park preserves stately and magnificent Sequoia sempervirens or coast redwoods (cypress family) which are the tallest living things on our planet. They can live up to 2,000 years and grow 27 feet wide towering 350 feet in the air. If you want to feel insignificant in this natural world, stand in this grove and look up and around. Exiting the car, ... read more

We woke up about 8am, took showers, and got dressed. Today we were going to take the Hop-On-Hop-Off bus tour. We knew it was in Canadian Place, so we hopped on our good old bus 406 and headed to the Richmond-Brighouse train station. Arriving at the station, we crossed the street and bought two All Day Passes, and waited for the train to Waterfront, the last stop on the line. In no time, the train pulled in, we got on, and away we went. Around 11:30 we reached to stop, got off, and started looking for the ticket booth at Canadian Place. We found Canadian Place with no problem, but we had to ask someone where the bus tour booth was. It turned out to be pretty much in sight. We went there and a lady ... read more

Time to head back to Rohnert Park. We’ve explored Yosemite as much as we can. Parts of it are still not open as there are 8” snow drifts still in the mountain passes. We were lucky to be able to explore Glacier Point because there are still high snow banks on the road sides left from recent plowing. The goal upon arrival in Rohnert Park (besides finding some groceries for our dinner) was a trip to the urgent care clinic. We had to drive to Santa Rosa because the clinic in Rohnert Park was permanently closed. We arrived at 4:30 at the urgent care clinic and were treated like royalty through the whole process. It was a total of four hours including driving time to Santa Rosa - I was admitted, examined, x-rayed, fitted with a ... read more
