We had a somber and sober start to our 2024 trip to Europe with a stop in the French town of Peronne. This area is one of main areas in the Battle of the Somme, the bloodiest battle in British Military history. After our whirlwind trip through Portugal and Spain last year we were determined to slow down on this year’s trip. After a brief stop overnighting in the quaint St Margaret's bay, that seems to have been trapped in time, but perfect for ferry watching being next door to Dover. A journey to Turkey, France, Italy and the UAE. Monday 13 May 2024 The journey begins !! Megs kindly dropped us at the airport in Brisbane at about 11:30pm last night for our 01:55am flight from Brisbane to Dubai. All went well getting checked in - just the wait until the flight was called. The details indicate a 14 hour flight to Dubai (arriving 10am local), a 4 hour layover and then another 4 and half hours to Istanbul arriving there at 6:00pm local. The times behind Brisbane are: Dubai - 6 hours Istanbul - 7 hours Paris and Milan - 8 hours The Emirates service left on time and we eventually arrived in Istanbul close to 6pm local time. 17 MART PAZAR 2024 Yine güzel bir uyku ve güzel bir kahvaltı..artık lüks düzeyini arttırdık.. Sabah kahvaltısında, first class uçuyoruz ve gereği olan portakal suyuna şampanya ile günü başlatıyoruz… Bugünkü program gereği yola çıktık .. Biraz bocaladıktan sonra, hedefimiz olan St Odile’e vardık… St Odile (660-720) varlıklı bir ailenin kızı olarak yaşamını hasta ve bakıma muhtaç kadınlara ayırarak dağın tepesine bir kilise bir şato ve bir çok şapeli inşa etmiş ve ifade edildiğine göre yarattığı mucizelerle bir çok hastaya şifa bulmuş bir kadın … Bizim yerli filimlerde sıkça görüldüğü üzere ,kör bir kızın gözlerine hayat verince adı “Tanrının ışığı “ anlamında Odile ‘e çevrilmiştir… Bugünkü etimolojistlere göre adı “od” tan türetilmiş olup almanca “sırtı kalın,varlıklı” demektir.. 14 MART PERŞEMBE 2024 Sabah kahvaltıdan sonra acaba bir şey unuttukmu? telaşları başladı… Bir şeyler atıştırıp Gare de L’Est e doğru yol aldık. 10:07 de hızlı trenimiz büyük rahatlık ve konforla saat 11:54 te Strasbourg’a vardı.. Araç kiralama şirketimiz Europecar’ı bir otel içinde bulduk .. Erken geldiniz 15 .00 te gelin dediler … Yapacak bir şey yok Strasbourg’u turlarız dedik .. Şehrin girişinde kocaman bir Nemrut lokantası bizi karşıladı Bizim çay bardakları, lokantanin hangi ülkeye ait olduğunun imzası olarak ortada duruyor.. Svitlana Avrupa'da çok ünlü olan ,mercimek çorbasını içtikten sonra şehri turlamaya karar verdi .. Ben de çaylarımın keyfine varırken etrafı izlemeye başladım..
