Before we start with today’s story, we should update you on last night. The “all aboard” time was 9:30 but at 10:00 there were still buses returning with passengers from the excursions. There were about 100 people lined up for the security check and to come up the gangway when we last looked. We figured they were pretty tired from a very long day, but they probably got to see a lot of interesting stuff. We are sure the most enjoyable sight was to see the ship still waiting for them. This morning was a chilly, rainy morning. We went to the buffet about 9:00 and every time someone came in/out from the Lido Deck, the automatic doors stayed open and cold gusts of wind blew into the dining area. That hurried us along with our ... read more

Today is Memorial Day – at least in the US. Janet had brought along a “patriotic outfit” and saved it to wear today. We saw a couple of other people wearing something patriotic, but most people looked like they do every other day. At 11:00, the captain made an announcement about the meaning of Memorial Day and called for a moment of thoughtful silence. David was out on deck and practically everyone stopped what they were doing and stood silently. After about a minute they played Taps over the loudspeaker system. It was nicely done. But let’ back up a few hours. We had set the alarm for this morning, and today we actually got up. We went to the dining room and had a sit-down breakfast instead of going through the buffet. It was a ... read more

After a busy day yesterday, we had a restful Sea Day today. Yesterday was sunny in the morning and partially cloudy in the afternoon, with a high temperature around 75. After we returned to the ship, it started raining and continued throughout the night. We sailed about 10:00 and are on our way to Norway. Unfortunately, it had become windy, and the ride started getting bumpy during the night. Early today there was a 30-mph crosswind and the temperature only got to mid-50’s. By mid-afternoon it got up to 60 degrees and only half as much wind, so the ride was smoother. Anyway, this was a good day to hang around the cabin and try to relax. We had a little late breakfast, but David was able to find a chocolate donut (with chocolate sprinkles) for ... read more

Welcome to the roller-coaster named Caribbean Princess. At least that is how it felt last night. Maybe if we had been Navy people instead of Air Force, then it might have felt better. But through the night the ship accelerated to make up for lost distance and therefore it was very bouncy – if that is a real word. We got up and dressed at 9:30 when the carnival ride was better, and we headed off to breakfast. Janet got 3 cabins down the passageway and then had to turn around and go back to the cabin because there was still too much ship motion. David went on up to breakfast and then brought back some food for Janet for the morning. Our cabin steward came and cleaned the room but otherwise it was an uneventful ... read more

Hello, as we bump along in the Atlantic Ocean. Last night the ship seemed to hit all the potholes and speed bumps, but it actually was just strong winds and moderate waves. This is the first time in many trips when Janet needed to take some Dramamine. But that made things better, and after we finally got to sleep. We did not get up until late in the morning. David brought some drinks and pastries down to the cabin from the buffet before they closed for breakfast. Walking by the swimming pool, the waves were even larger than in the photos a few days back. People seemed to be doing a line dance as we all swayed to the left and then swayed to the right as we headed for the door to the buffet. The ... read more

Happy Mother’s Day! This is a special day for all mothers and the ship did a nice job of trying to celebrate. Attached are a few pictures of their efforts. We tried to get up at 7:30, but the previous night had not been smooth, so we were a little sleepy and didn’t get up until 8:30. But we got dressed and had breakfast in the World Marketplace Buffet. We were intending to spend an hour at the Knitter’s Club, but that didn’t happen. There were a couple of special Mother’s Day Brunches around the ship, but we stayed with the usual food to keep from aggravating queasy stomachs. Our only real appointment today was needing to go through Irish Immigration this morning. Two immigration officials joined the ship yesterday and are checking all the passports ... read more

This is a Two Day report instead of just Today. Thursday: The day was heavily affected by the rough ride on Wednesday night. The ship had slowed down during the day to make the cruise smoother while everyone was up and walking around. To get back on schedule they went faster at night while everyone should be sleeping. But the extra speed meant more rolling over the waves. We usually leave the bathroom light on with the door slightly ajar, but the motion of the ship caused the door to swing back and forth - alternately bright and dim. We could fix that problem, but it still meant a pretty bumpy ride. The waves caused Janet to have a squeezy stomach in the morning, even with the Seasick Bracelets. We were still sleepy when they smoothed ... read more

Hello from somewhere in the Atlantic. For some reason, the BLOG has been suspected to be a SPAMMER. It has taken a little while to get that corrected. Hopefully this can get posted soon. Well, we missed it by “that much” – meaning 5 minutes. With the clock having been moved forward we just didn’t get up in time and skipped Breakfast again. Since the clock is changing another hour again tonight, breakfast may be questionable again. But we did have lunch at 11:35 up at the buffet again – on this ship it is called the World Market instead of Horizon Court. If anyone wants to tour around the ship with us, the deck plans should be found at this URL: http://www.princess.com/en-us/ships-and-experience/ships/cb-caribbean-princess We are in cabin D224 (pictures to be included someday). It is on ... read more

Hello. Last night we tried to post the BLOG and it was blocked as a spammer. If you are reading this, then that issue has been resolved and we are back in business. This morning, we got up with the alarm and made it to breakfast in the Palm Dining Room. We felt that was an accomplishment considering the missing hour from last night’s sleep. This dining room is located on the stern of the ship on deck-6. It is a little awkward to get there, but we made it. Then we went back to the cabin for the rest of the morning. Last night the ship was really zipping along, so it was kind of bumpy. The drinks in the refrigerator were periodically rolling back and worth and hitting each other – pretty weird. This ... read more

We are still in the Atlantic, continuing toward the Azore Islands. We have really been enjoying the restful pace of activities – after we get close to Europe things will happen almost every day and we will not have as many rest periods. We got up even earlier today and had the buffet breakfast. Remembering how Melody really liked the Princess croissants, David had a strawberry croissant. He also had something called a Pizza Muffin, which was pieces of pepperoni and cheese on a small crust. And David got a watermelon smoothie. With some bacon and sausages, and pound cake, that was a filling breakfast. Breakfast finished by 9:00 and Janet was able to go to the Knitters and Knatters meeting in the Crooner’s Bar. This is similar to the Hook and Needle Club at Mason ... read more
