We woke up to another beautiful day in Oacoma, South Dakota. Last night we all slept quite well, in fact, we overslept this morning. Raymond and Tom remembered to close all of their windows so they didn't freeze their nuts off like the previous night. We had breakfast, our morning strategizing session and scrapped the bugs off the windshield. Raymond and Tom are getting more adept with the RV after only one day. At 8:40 we hit the open road, and I mean open road as the highway was empty. The landscape is now changing into rolling hills loaded with cattle. Our first stop today will be the bad Lands.

The Badlands are peaks and valleys of delicately banded colors. The Lakota people were the first to call this place "Mako Sica", which translates to "Badlands". Extreme temperatures, lack of water, and exposed rugged terrain led to the name. This National park never disappoints. It was our second visit and I am still in awe with the beauty. This is the boys first visit, and Tom said that he has never seen anything like it on this planet. We're still wondering what other planets he's been on! After a couple of stops along the scenic route we headed to Mt. Rushmore.

Well, the trip to Mt Rushmore turned out to be a s--t show. Ray claims it was the GPS's fault, when what actually happened is somehow when he put the address in it was bringing us to mt Rushmore Rd. and not the park. He thought he was on the wrong road and ended up doing a hairpin turn on the highway after stopping short, something that Raymond wasn't expecting....ugh. After changing directions it sent us on a different route that ended up at a road closure. Another turn, and finally we were on the right course which was back to the where we originally were (where we made the u turn). After wasting about 45 minutes we arrived and enjoyed the visit along with an ice-cream which put a smile on all of our faces.

Since our time line was off schedule we decided to stop in Spearfish, SD instead of Gillette, WY for the night. We called ahead to Chris's Campground and were delighted with what we found. Had some problems leveling the RV's but then settled in for cocktail time in our RV just before a huge thunderstorm passed through. After a lovely dinner we all settled in for the night as tomorrow there will be no late starts.

Somewhere in this blog, you will see a comment button. We would appreciate it if you would leave a note that you are receiving the blog. It's the only way we know if we have the correct emails.

Getting all the updates. Sounds like the worst part of the trip was getting your luggage from the long term parking to the terminal in Londonderry! So the question of the day. Who required more training for first time RVers ? Tom and Raymond or your old traveling companions from Andover ? (or yet to be determined)

I’m really enjoying following your adventure. Thanks for the laugh with the gps cause that’s something that happens to all of us and it’s funnier when it’s someone else’s mishap. Safe travels.
