Instead of a long discourse on where I have been, how about I ask you to read something I have written that might interest you. And likewise, please share with me some of your best adventures and thoughts?
People ask, where is your favorite place? Two actually, the Amazon rainforest, and Angkor complex in Siem Reap. But then again, I enjoy many places, having been to all fifty of our United States. I love our National Parks.
I don't count places, but I do count experiences and friends.

Truthfully, I never realized Madera had a wine trail, much less some award winning wines. From Tammilee Tips (MSN): One of our favorite things to do while traveling is wine tasting. Learning about the area from the winemakers and why they are passionate about their family-owned wineries. This year we have partnered with Visit Yosemite Madera County to explore as much as we can around Madera County including the amazing Madera Wine Trail! If you are visiting Yosemite National Park and want to spend a day exploring outside of the park, this is a great way to do it! I have listed the Madera Wine Trail wineries in alphabetical order, so they are easy to go through. Most of the wineries are located in Madera, California with a couple closer to Oakhurst ... read more

Jordy Johnson lists these fifteen places as the best must visit places for foodies. I did not start out traveling as a foodie but became one in a very short time. It probably started in New Orleans in the 80s, and has continued on through Europe, South America, and Asia. But it never hurts to have visited all fifty of our states in search of great and unusual food. Vietnam-was quite surprising, since the French influence is still strong, yet very adaptable to Asian cooking, and their farm to table style. Our best meal here was at the famous, but now defunct Bobby Chinn's, who you may have seen on the TV food and travels shows with Bourdain or Zimmern. He waited on us, explained many of the dishes, and also gave us a "blow by ... read more

Nothing can beat the street food in Asia. It is truly a feast for the eyes and taste senses. Our first visit to Bangkok was sensory overload in the street food department. The streets almost everywhere, particularly around public transportation, are filled with food carts. And just beyond the food carts, are thousands of brick-and-mortar places to eat. But what about our friends in Europe. The street food scene is almost an afterthought. But in some places, as you will read, street food has been around for centuries. World Wild Schooling has listed some that I have actually tried: Istanbul The street food scene in Istanbul is massive. Besides offering unique and delicious options, street food in Istanbul can be found in every corner you take; you don’t have to walk miles to get to roadside ... read more

Europe » France » Champagne-Ardenne » Reims June 1st 2024

When the budget allows, I would choose these two champagnes before any others. Or, if by chance, someone else is buying, as has been the case more often than not. My good fortune! Maison Ruinart was the world's first Champagne house. Established in 1729, it's been crafting and shipping rosé Champagne since 1764. Today, it focuses on sustainability to fight the effects of climate change, reducing its carbon footprint while improving biodiversity in the vineyard -- and it still makes a great sparkling rosé. Ruinart Brut Rosé blends chardonnay and pinot noir fruit from 30 to 40 different crus (premium vineyard plots) with up to 30% reserve wine -- ensuring the house style remains intact. The wine ages for at least two years in bottle, exceeding the minimum 15 months required by French law for non-vintage ... read more

Most of you know by now that I have the best travel buddy EVER! Mike and I have been traveling for about three decades now. We have covered every continent except Antarctica. Our travels include: Angkor Wat and Amazonia (my two favorites), golfing all over the world, along with places like African safaris, SE Asia, Europe, driving Chile from top to bottom, and most recently, Japan. But what makes a great travel companion? Adaptability-changing on the fly, or not worrying about the next hotel or destination can be both fun and challenging. Preparedness and patience go together. This goes along with being very flexible. Patience-while neither of us are paragons of patience, I think we take things in stride, without getting too upset. Plane delays, road detours, sold out hotels, and bad weather all force us ... read more

The French Open has started. Now that I am watching on TV, I wish I was there! Oh well, maybe next year. The crowds here are what makes this Slam so much fun!!! Last year (2022) at the French Open in Paris: No, we are not celebrating a 16th birthday. Maybe some multiple of 16. I am referring to the 16th Arrondissement (of twenty) of Paris. There are twenty in Paris, for those of you unfamiliar. The 16th includes the Arch de Triomphe, and several well-known museums. But as you are aware, I am not here for the museums. I have only one reason for being here, the famous French Open. The 16th is rather a high rent area or one of high society's favorite places, comparable to Chelsea and Kensington in London, or Charlottenburg in ... read more

Movie Nights on MSN has a list of twenty places. Unfortunately, I have been to some of them. I hate to dwell on the negative, but at least you have been forewarned not to go. Have you ever gone somewhere and regretted it? My missteps are your gain! Some Reddit users shared their experience when visiting Stockton, California. They remember seeing armed guards at everyday places like McDonald’s, which made things seem strange. Others remember it as a place where there was a lot of crime, especially violent crimes like murder. But even with all the problems, Stockton has some really good places to eat, like Gian’s Deli and De Vinci’s, where you can get great food. Despite the challenges, Stockton’s food scene is something that people still enjoy, showing that even in tough places, there ... read more

The Indy 500 is tomorrow. I am getting ready for the race today! From 2010: The "Greatest Spectacle in Racing" will now take place on Sunday, May 27, the traditional Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. I always look forward to the race, as it brings back some wonderful memories. This article is from 2010. About the only change is that about half of the engines are Chevrolets, half are still Hondas. The start of the race is a powerful and exciting event, 33 high powered engines, revving up to about 230 mph, 3 racers wide, 11 rows. The noise is deafening, ear plugs must be worn, the vibration shakes the grandstands and your soul, as the crowd noise tries to match the roar of engines. No matter how hard I try, I cannot imagine making a ... read more

Make sure you watch the Indy 500 Parade tomorrow! From one of my previous trips to the Indy 500 Part of the festivities of the day before the big race is the big IPL Indy 500 Parade (on Saturday before the race). We have seats in the front row, and hope to see all of our favorite drivers. I am not too big on the celebrities, since most of them do not know the difference between a tire and a wheel. And some I am totally unaware of! A mere 300,000 people watch the biggest parade in the midwest. img=https://cosmicpimg-prod.services.web.outlook.com/proxy/?u=http%3A%2F%2Fupload.wikimedia.org%2Fwikipedia%2Fen%2Fthumb%2F2%2F28%2FSoldiers_Sailors_Mon_IN_1898.jpg%2F220px-Soldiers_Sailors_Mon_IN_1898.jpg&t=eyJhbGciOiJSUzI1NiIsInR5cCI6IkpXVCIsImtpZCI6ImwveXhZeFJyZkcwYk9sQnYxRU1NdlgrME5tZz0iLCJ4NXQiOiJsL3l4WXhScmZHMGJPbEJ2MUVNTXZYKzBObWc9IiwiaXNzbG9jIjoiU0ExUFI4NE1CMzU0MyIsInNyc24iOjYzODUyM... read more

Over the years, about four to five decades, I have traveled on business or pleasure. These are the few places I have been. Floret, Sea-Tac Airport: It’s time to taste! Take a sip and think about the flavors that hit your tongue. How do they compare or contrast to the smell? What do they remind you of? Remember, it’s okay if what you taste is different from what others taste. It’s also okay if your wine preferences aren’t the same as those around you. Either way, this is your opportunity to identify the tasting notes and to decide whether or not those characteristics are to your liking. The menu changes seasonally (another factor that makes this place stand out among airport dining options) but typically includes fresh, zingy Mexican-inspired dishes like quesadillas, tacos and avocado toast ... read more
