I spent 20 years in the U.S. Navy and had the opportunity to travel the world. With my work today still allowing me to travel extensively, I'd like to share my stories as well as my photography in hopes that my photography will be appreciated by those who see it.

When I started this blog, it was with the intent that I would chronicle my travels around the world and showcase some of my photography...well, this entry and the accompanying photos were taken here in Hawaii where I currently live, but since I lived in Japan for so many years and have so many great Japanese friends, I decided to go to Moanalua Gardens on my lunch break and take some pictures of he busloads of Japanese tourists that show up there everyday. As most of you know the Japanese love taking pictures and posing for pictures and perhaps the fact that I lived there for so long has probably developed into my love of photography today. I enjoy watching the fun they have and pleasure they get out of taking pictures, so here are some ... read more

The conference here in Indonesia is going well and we are getting at the initial phases of the cooperative projects that will be undertaken early next year by U.S. and Indonesian Army personnl to help improve the lives of the youth in this area. We went out and conducted site surveys of the proposed construction projects and across the street from one of the sites is a Madrasa, or Islamic School. I asked one of the Indonesian Police Officers who was escorting us if I could take pictures of the school. She said it would be no problem, and she took me onto the Madrasa grounds to introduce me to the headmaster of the Madrasa. It is always refreshing to know that no matter I go in the world teens are teens and the are naturally ... read more

Although I spent most of the day in the hotel relaxing, I did walk out with one of the other conference attendees to a mall not far from our hotel. The mall has just recently opened and in fact tomorrow is the grand opening and many of the shops are not yet completed/open. It is a very cool, modern mall which is five stories high. I love the summetry of looking up five stories of a circular pattern and have tried to capture that in a couple of my photos. In addition, even though Indonesia is a predominantly Muslim country, there were signs for Christmas everywhere, employees where Santa hats and costumes and Christmas songs playing in the background. A very interesting mix of cultures and commercialism.... read more

I departed Manila at 6:25 a.m. for a 1 hour and 40 minute flight to Hong Kong, and after only about 45 minutes on the ground in Hong Kong flew approximately 4 hour and 30 minute flight to Jakarta. Upong arriving at the aiport in Jakarta was met by a representative of the Ritz-Carlton Hotel where the conference I am attending will take place. I can honestly say I now know why the Ritz-Carlton has such an incredible reputation. I was greeted at the hotel, by name, and then walked through the lobby explaining how the hotel is layed out and then escorted directly to my room which is very spacious with great amenities. The check-in was done in my room to make things even easier. Once I was cleaned up and refreshed I went up ... read more

So, on the advise of my good friend and incredible photographer, Kelly Cappelli (www.kellycappelli.com) I've decided to start my blog on this trip to the Philippines, and then will be traveling on to Indonesia. The first photos I'm uploading will be from around the area of Iba, Zambales. Traveling through this area I was amazed to see that even after 22 years the effects of the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo are still evident. Many of the rivers in the area are still buried under tons of Lahar. Some of the rivers are being dredged in an attempt to get them flowing again. In a later entry I will upload photos of a cross sticking up out of the lahar and the rest of the church remains buried since that day in 1991.... read more

One of the sites we surveyed that will be getting not only a facelift but also two additional classrooms built is an elementary school in Barangay Rabanes, Zambales. I have said it many times, but the most enjoyment I get out of traveling with my job is the opportunities I get to interact with many different people, and in particular the children. This series of photos attached to this entry was taken when we visited the school, and as you can see, the kids love the camera and getting thier pictures taken. Although these people in most cases have far less than we have, and these children aren't as blessed with much of the things our own children take for granted, they always have smiles on thier faces.... read more
