After my first trip in Ukraine in Kyiv, I felt that I needed to see more of this country, which was so different from all the other countries that I had visited until then. Asia was different for me but I was expecting it to be different. On the contrary, when I visited Ukraine I was not expecting it. For that reason and because I was missing my Ukrainian friends, when I found a really cheap flight ticket to Kyiv, I booked it directly and that time, I stayed 10 days there, so I could travel to other places in the country and meet my friends again. Thanks to my great friends Nastya and Sasha who planned everything for the 2 weekends that we could spend together there exploring the country, I got a very good ... read more

Europe » Germany » Berlin » Berlin November 4th 2013

This week-end I went to Berlin with some friends of Cologne to visit my dear friend Enhui, who is now studying there. I was waiting so much to go there but mostly to meet her and in the end, the week-end was even better than what I expected because this city is just great!!! Berlin is well-known internationnaly for a lot of aspects: historically, for party (electro mostly), for alternative districts, for street arts,... and I have to say that I was surprised to see how all this is so true! Berlin is a huge city so we could not go everywhere but we walked a lot around. I loved walking, wandering there because every corner is different and there are a lot of street arts everywhere. Firstly, I really liked Kreuzberg district: there were a ... read more

I have been living for almost 2 Years now in Cologne, so I want to share my insights about this great city where you can enjoy a good meal or a good drink. As I love other cultures, I especially love international restaurants. For that reason, you may find mainly here restaurants, which are not serving German food. However, as I know that tourists love tasting local food, I will also put a few German restaurants that I like! Cafés: - Yummy Müslibar: in this cosy café near Rudolfplatz and Molktestrasse, you will find a perfect atmosphere to meet a friend to chat, have breakfast or even a cake in the afternoon. They have a wide range of müslis and cereals, some salty dishes and some cakes. This is a small place so you can be ... read more

In the evening of the 2nd day, I went to the city center but as Anastasiia still had something to do at work, I first met her 2 friends Zhenya and Sacha to walk in the city for a while around the Stadium, which is kind of a business district with higher and modern buildings. This stadium has been completely rebuilt for the Football Euro Cup last year. On that walk, I saw a Catholic Church -the other churches and cathedrals I saw were orthodox ones-. This walk was nice because we were just talking about our life, our plans,... After walking with Zhenya, I went to dinner with Sacha, as Anastasiia was still working. We went to the same restaurant, where we were yesterday after opera -there are a lot of them in the center-. ... read more

Yesterday at midnight, I arrived at Kiev airport and I was expected it, it was REALLY cold + windy! However, I checked the weather before going and my friend told me to prepare for cold weather, so I was prepared: with several layers of clothing ;) From the airport, we took a common taxi, which took us almost in front of our home, for only 4€ per person!! It reminded me of Vietnam, where we did the same from the airport for a cheap price as well. But, even if the taxi driver was not the best one I had, the flow of cars in Ukraine is not as dangerous as in Vietnam ;) After a 1st night in Kyiv, I could finally visit the city. As my friend was working on that day, I went ... read more

Europe » France » Île-de-France » Paris August 16th 2013

This week, I was staying at my parents' place near Paris for a week holiday and two of my good friends in Cologne (from China and Philippines), joined me for a 2 day-trip there. So for my parents having my 2 friends from China and from Philippines at home was almost like to do couchsurfing. I was really looking forward to seeing how my parents would be with my friends, who cannot speak the same language and do not share the same culture. And I have to say that I was really amazed and happy to see how my parents behaved with the both of them. Both of them spoke English or a bit of German with them, ask them questions, smiled, laughed,... I could not have dreamt of a better stay with them. On the ... read more

Europe » Portugal » Lisbon & Tagus Valley » Lisbon July 18th 2013

After visiting Sintra and the coast, we went to the beach near our house but we did not stay long because it was much more windy than in Algarve. So we relaxed there for a while, read a bit and then came back home to prepare before going out in Lisbon. We were indeed meeting a friend from Düsseldorf and a couchsurfer from Lisbon for dinner and then going for a drink. Our friend from Düsseldorg had been the day before to a nice, very little and cheap restaurant, where there were serving fish :) So we went there all together and it was really good. Afterwards, we went for a walk in the city center. We tasted a local alcohol called "Ginjinha" (or cherry-cherry for Lidia ;) ), it is made out of infusing sour ... read more

Europe » Portugal » Sintra July 18th 2013

For our 2nd day in Lisbon, we went to Sintra early morning. We talked about our plan to go there to our host and he kindly offered us to take us there in the morning, as he was only working in late afternoon on that day. This was great because he knew where to go and it was much quicker than bus!! For breakfast, we went to a pastry shop, which is famous in Sintra. We ate there a pastry called "travesseiros", which is made of sugar cane cream wrapped in pastry. I have to say that the 1st bite I thought ok that's really tasty but after some bites, it was really too "heavy" for me with all this sugar and butter. But, well, it was nice to taste it once. After breakfast, we walked ... read more

After a 4-hour bus drive, we arrived in Lisbon at lunch time. Thanks to the great advice of our host Miguel in Faro, we already knew what we wanted to do on our 1st afternoon there: visit Belem district. In Belem district, there are some nice buildings along the river and a monastery as well. The monastery Mosteiro dos Jerónimos was looking so amazing from outside with all those small details on the white stone. This building is of Gothic-style. Inside the monastery church were some people buried and among them was VASCO DE GAMA!! After this visit, we went near the river to see the Conquistador building which is in a shape of a boat with sailors on it looking at the sea. In Portugal, a lot ... read more

Europe » Portugal » Algarve » Faro July 15th 2013

So after that great 1st day in Faro, our holiday went on and the main theme of those 3 days was Chillaxing :D So it means mainly days discovering a new island or beach, enjoying the sun and the ocean and obviously drinking sangria at the same time :) My friend from Ukraine was crazy about Sangria so we tasted the Sangria at each beach and each bar we went to! Red sangria or white sangria we drank them all ;) So but except drinking, we really discovered nice places around Faro. The 1st day we went with the boat to Ilha Deserta. It's an island where a very few people are leaving nowadays and where there is only one restaurant! For this, the restaurant is really nice but expensive. When there is no competition why ... read more
