Still at the 79th street Boat Basin Marina in Manhattan NYC, for those that have been here, you know that it is not the Ritz Carlton Hotel. But it is just down the street from it…. Can you imagine that it only costs us a mere $30 dollars per night to stay on their moorings. Not to many places you can stay for $30 dollars per nigh in Manhattan!!! Other than staying over night in a cardboard box!!! Near a heater vent!! So want if this place is little run down!! It’s in a perfect location and we are very happy to be able to stay here.
We have to admit that we have been tourists in New York !! Visiting Times Square once again this year. Check out all the publicity adds every where, Imagine what it costs to have your name pasted all over this place!
We have been busy with our time here purchasing needed supplies for the crossing to the West Indies. But we found time to obtain tickets for the live taping of the Late Show with David Letterman. We ended up at the taping that took place on
Tuesday October 31st, Halloween night, at 4:30 in the afternoon!! It was a great experience sitting in front of the set seeing how all unrolls during the taping of the show. Before the taping, the audience is put though the rules, what to do and not to do. It is very simple, you just have to laugh as loud as possible!! Seeing David live, with our own eyes, and living the experience was something we will remember for a long time to come. Too bad we didn’t get interviewed live on national television!!! Maybe next time!! But maybe you can see us in the crowd!!!
This morning we set on a quest to find out where the last living place of the great musician and song writer, John Lennon was. As you can see from our pictures we found this sad place. The last living place of John Lennon is the Dakota apartment building located at 1 west 72nd street, just across from central park. Sadly on December 8th 1980 a crazed fan and gunman named Mark David Chapman approached John Lennon & Yoko, and shot Lennon to his death. John Lennon, probably the world’s most famous rock star,
lay semiconscious, hemorrhaging from four bullets in his back with his wife Yoko who was holding his head while screaming. The report says that the gunman, after shooting Lennon, casually lay down his gun and started to read the book, Catcher in the Rye as the police arrived. Chapman interpreted that the voice of God had told him to assassinate Lennon. This is a truly sad era and this has marked so many of us. Well, we went to pay our respects and the feeling is not a great one. It would be so much better to say hey we bumped into John Lennon…… John you will never be forgotten.
Well on a happier note… This morning (Thursday) it has been raining but we can see that there is clearing in the West. So today we are off see some more of the great sites here in NYC right after Annie finishes cooking up a storm of meals, in preparation for our crossing. Surely the crew will gain a few pounds during this trip…haha.
Thank you to those who have sent us great comments it is encouraging to us to know who is visiting and supporting our site.
Cheers
Annie & Eric
