I heard from my friend Tom on Monday. He was telling me "Next weekend is the last weekend where I am available before going traveling for 6 months. You should come. Plus we are having a party on the boat." I didn't think twice and booked my flight to London Southend. Believe it or not but when I landed in London the weather was much nicer than in Geneva. Great start to a great week end. Tom had attached his boat near Hackney Wick station, north-east London. He lives on a barge with his girlfriend, Josie. On Friday evening, Tom and I had a quite night, just catching up over a beer and pizzas at a pub and later drinking Gin&Tonic in the barge (while listening to the pub's DJ).

Saturday was a beautiful day. We started it with an amazing brunch made of smoked salmon with egg benedict and hollandaise sauce. Yummy! And so cheap compared to Geneva prices. After a short walk around and some shopping, we went back to the barge to get the party going. What could be better/more British than an afternoon PIM'S on a rooftop in London! Ah man, life is good! And the night goes on.

The great British summer….that was yesterday. Back to reality, it is Sunday morning, you are hangover, and it is raining. We had some luck and the rain stopped allowing Josie and I to rent some bike for a London tour while Tom was working. I had never met Josie before but we got on very well and had lots of fun. We rented bikes, you know the ones you can take from a station can drop when you reach your destination. They are so handy. We started with a coke on the roof top of a bar near St Paul's cathedral. I was amazed to see how flat London is! Where are the high rise buildings? I don't know why but I was expecting a different skyline. Nonetheless, it was beautiful. We tried to go to the National Museum but by the time we reached it was closed. I will have to come back. To make up for the deception, we stopped at a cupcake shop 😊 Our last stop was Covent garden, I really enjoy the atmosphere there. The shops were open (mostly souvenir shop and tea shop), there is lots of restaurants and bars.

What a nice weekend. It was actually great fun to live on a barge for the weekend, it feels a bit like camping, and you don't have the feeling you are in a big city. However, I don't think I could do that, it moves a bit too much to my liking.

Il me faudra revenir!
