We got good nights sleep in Lincoln's home town and hopped back in the
truck to see the final Giant in IL. This was the Lauterbach Giant in
Springfield. Next on our stop was the Pink Elephant Antique Mall in Livingston IL. This is an old high school that was turned into a huge antique store. Outside was a large pink elephant, a giant dressed in swim trunks, a huge tricycle, a Harley Davison Giant, a large green UFO and an Ice Cream place that has 6 flavours. We got and ice cream looked around the antique mall and headed on our way. Our next roadside attraction was the Brooks Catsup bottle in Collinsville IL. It was built in 1949 and is the world's largest bottle of Catsup. As we continued on we crossed the border into Missouri we could get our first glimpse of "The Gateway to the West" the St. Louis Arch. It was a beautiful sight and even bigger than I thought it would be. As we crossed the mighty Mississippi River and continued west we drove through downtown St. Louis which was much nicer then I had imagined. We had planned on going into the corner of Kansas on our way to Oklahoma but because of the tornado that had just flattened the city of Joplin Missouri we thought it best to avoid this area. We drove through the area on the freeway and devastation of the tornado was everywhere. There were cars and boats in trees, every tree we could see was broken and flattened. We continued on driving through a very bad storm into Tulsa Oklahoma were we crashed for the night. We found out in the morning that the storm we drove through the night before spawned tornados to the north and to the south of where we were. We counted our lucky stars that we threaded the needle and missed them.
