Our last day in Vienna, and on our way to Melk we headed out to Schonbrunn Palace, the home of the Habsburg Dynasty.

The throne of the Holy Roman Empire was continuously occupied by the Habsburgs between 1438 and 1740. The house also produced kings of Bohemia, England, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Portugal and Spain, as well as rulers of several Dutch and Italian countries.

The Palace and grounds cover many hectares and is well cared for. Schonbrunn Palace is Austria's number one tourist destination. Just as well we arrived early, as by the time we were leaving, it was packed to the rafters.

Off to Melk, home to the famous Melk abbey.
