First stop was Check Point Charlie, the divide between east and west during the Cold War. It is sobering to think that the wall only came down twenty four years ago, and how difficult life would have been in East Berlin.

Berliner Dom was next stop.

Next stop was Museum Island, which contains five world class museums. Located on an Island in the River Spree, the five museums rival the Louvre.

The island contains the Altes (Old) Museum, the Neues Museum, the Alte National Gallery the Bode Museum and the highlight, the Pergamon Museum. The Pergamon Museum contains the Pergamon Altar, and the unbelievable Ishtar Gate, built by King Nebuchadnnezzar II.

On the side of the altar is an inscription by the King that states "I Nebuchadnezzar laid the foundation of the gates down to the ground water level and had them built out of pure blue stone. Upon the walls in the inner room of the gate are bulls and dragons and thus I magnificently adorned them with luxurious splendour for all mankind to behold in awe".

As you walk in to the room containing the Ishtar Gate (and the room is massive), your legs almost crumble literally in awe.

Then we walked into a room containing the bust of Queen Nefertiti, renowned as the most beautiful woman in history.

Vietnamese was on the dinner menu tonight.
