Trick Fountain in Mirabell GardensTrick Fountain in Mirabell GardensTrick Fountain in Mirabell Gardens

This fountain acted as a Wine Cooler for the Archbishop (in the middle of the fountain). All of the seats surrounding the fountain had trick jets for water, apart from the seat of the Archbishop.

With rain being predicted for the day, we decided to catch a Boat Cruise up the river to Helbronn Palace, which the Archbishop and Head of State of the day Archbishop Sittick) built for his amusement and for the amusement of his guests. There was a red double decker bus to meet us at the boat, and take us up to the Palace. The Palace has extensive gardens which contain trick fountains everywhere, that can be turned on at will, and were by the Tour guide. The fountains are a marvel, as there are no pumps, they are all gravity fed using water pressure. The jets of water literally spring from everywhere as you walk through the gardens, and not one person in our group didn't get the trick fountain treatment from the guide.

We then walked through the Palace, which contained magnificent period furniture and furnishings, and had an amazing art collection dating back to the 17th century. The gardens at Helbronn contain the Rotunda in Sound of Music, "I am Sixteen".

We then caught a bus back to the Old City where we attended a Mozart Concert in the Residenz Gallery. Mozart and Bach music was played on

a Gotische Harpe and Harpischord, the key instruments of Mozart's day. An opera singer sang to some of the pieces played.

We then visited the Residenz State Rooms, which were the home of the Archbishops/Rulers of Austria. They were again beautifully furnished, with amazing painted frescos on the ceilings.

We then walked past Mozart's birthplace, and then headed back to our Pension.
