July 9 – Day 11 – Calgary Stampede

Laundry and showers were the first order of the day before getting ready to board the bus to the Calgary Stampede. There were three busloads of us that went in. Some people stayed behind and went to the car show or took the day off. It was another sweltering hot day. We were all greeted at the Indian Village and presented with a white hat and made into honorary Calgarians. The first order of business was lunch, then, because Lucas was travelling with us, we hit the midway. The rides were way overpriced. Lucas and Allison went on a few of them but the line-ups were very long. We finally had to seek refuge from the sun in the agriculture building until the kids rejoined us. Then it was off to the motocross show. After that it was time to eat again before heading to the stadium for the show. We enjoyed the chuck wagon races and placed our bets on our favorites. Then came the main event – Jane Arden and the Young Canadians. What a show! Well worth the wait. Wow. We didn’t get home to bed until 230 a.m. but most of us dozed on the bus.

July 10 - Day 12 – Lethbridge

We slept in some this morning and when we got up we had to go for a few groceries and got a little lost. When we got back we had a nice, but short visit with Oscar and Annie and Brian and Heather. They have been very busy with family events so it was great that we got in even a little visit. They had a chance to see some of the cars while they were waiting for us to show up.

In the afternoon we went to the Birds of Prey Centre in Coaldale. That was fun but no better than the one outside of Kamloops which we have visited recently. For supper we were hosted by the Southern Alberta Antique Classic Auto Club at the Gem of the West Museum in Coaldale, a very nice little museum. A storm passed through and there was a rainbow on the way home, but more storms are passing through now.

Howdy Cowboys!
Sounds like a great time at the Calgary Stampede. You guys keep very busy. Had our Monday bike ride to Agassiz today and our basement is getting drywall put in today and tomorrow so nice to be away from the noise. We leave Monday for Haida Gwaii so pray the highways will be re-opened from the fires or we will have a problem. Adria, Lisa and I parked in Tsawwassen and rode bikes ? to the ferry to visit Jordan and Danielle (our granddaughter). They have a cute basement suite there. Had lunch overlooking the water then went to some interesting shops then headed back to the ferry...a great day. Look forward to your next blog. Keep safe
