July 5 – Day 7 Trail to Fort Steele

We skipped the Kiwanis breakfast and went to Salmo to have coffee and a visit with our long time friends Bonnie and Moses. Their brother in law, Ted and his son Adam were there as well. It was great to see them all. I don’t think that we have seen Adam since he was a kid.

We had no trouble going up over the summit today, but several cars were stopped part way up dealing with heating. It has been so hot that it is great to get up the steepest climbs early in the day. Some cars went around and took the ferry across the Kootenay Lake to avoid the hill. We enjoyed driving through the forested area with all the wild flowers along the side of the road. It was cooler this morning but before long the hot dry air was blowing in the open windows and the air vents. The roads have been good, with some construction but nothing that stopped us. We have spotted lots of deer today.

We made a stop at the quilt store in Cranbrook to pick up a couple of row by row patterns before proceeding to the campground at Fort Steele. Once we were set up, we went directly to the pool for a swim. It was so great that I must have enjoyed it for at least an hour before getting out.

I was thrilled to be able to visit with the 2010 Coasters that came out to the campground for a visit.
