We enjoyed our stay in La Malene. After a light breakfast of fairly fresh croissants and fruit we headed down the road towards the lovely medieval village of St. Enimie. We had a nice time wandering around the town where there is a 10th century abbey. After a nice coffee we continued along the road built by the Romans and improved by Louis XlV. We viewed the lovely little river hamlet of Castelbouc. It has the ruins of a medieval castle that can be seen on a vertical rock pinnacle. The Cevennes landscape then ascends through chestnut forests to the limestone plateaus of The Causses. Before leaving this area we stopped for lunch in St. Jean du Gard. Unfortunately, it was a busy little tourist town with mediocre restaurants.
Driving in southern France has been made much easier for Jim as there are roundabouts almost everywhere. They work so well as the traffic is continually flowing. We have a great car here, a Skoda Octavia. The GPS is wonderful to have and we have named her Suzette, Suzy for short!
We were saddened to hear of the horrific news out of Nice when we arrived back in Narbonne.
