This morning we were off on the metro to visit Temple of Heaven park. It was a tranquil oasis in the busy city of Beijing. The park is 276 hectares and is encompassed by a long wall with gates at each compass point. The park has lovely groves of ancient trees which we enjoyed strolling along. Some of the cypress trees are over 800 years old.
When we entered the park there were lots of activities going on. People doing some sort of Chinese line dancing while others were doing a parasol dance. Some people were singing or playing instruments and others playing different types of games. It was fun to watch everything going on around us. We enjoyed our time in this park as it was less crowded and today our weather is a little overcast and cooler.
From the park we found a bakery that sold cappuccinos and tasty baked goods. Yummy! The rest of the afternoon we spent wandering in the hutongs and enjoying the daily street life.
After a rest at our hotel we headed out for another enjoyable meal. Tomorrow we are off to hike the Great Wall.
