Started the day with a taxi ride to see a temple and then hit a few Government run shops. Near the temple we saw some baboons and wild pigs. We also saw a baboon running along a top of a fence near our hotel.
After lunch we met up with our group that we will be travelling thru India with. There are 15 of us. We have people from Australia, New Zealand, Spain, Japan and England. After our meeting we headed out for our first true India experience. We walked down some local streets to the Metro station. The metro is only two years old and is very nice and efficient. The train system has separate cars for women, though women are free to travel separately or with men. The stations were quite crowded and there was some begging by small children.
After leaving the Metro, we then got into a group of bicycle rickshaws and we were transported thru the streets of Old Delhi. It was amazing to see the life on the street from the rickshaw - chaos and filth. But we loved the experience. From the rickshaws we wandered through narrow little markets like rabbit warrens,
selling everything from sarees to spices.
We visited a Sikh Temple and a charity kitchen. We then were back on the rickshaws and onto the Metro and enjoyed rush hour in Delhi! After enjoying a dinner out as a group, we made our way back towards our hotel.
