Well our last day, sadly. Our hotel kindly granted us a complimentary late checkout, but unfortunately not in the same room. Totally understandable, as our room was a premium one with a balcony and sensational view, but they set us up in a small single with a large bathroom, so ideal for us to store our bags and be able to go and shower and freshen up before our late evening flight home to Melbourne.
After our final breakfast we walked to the nearby Campo dei Fiori for another look at the market. We then moved onto the Spanish Steps for another look around this area and do some last minute shopping for souvenirs for the family.
We decided to fritter a couple of hours with a final lazy Italian lunch at Ciampini. This was the restaurant we had visited at lunchtime on our first day in Rome. G had really wanted pizza that day, which they didn't serve at lunch so we didn't stop. The restaurant had looked really pleasant though, so perfect for today. I had a delicious turbot with truffles and a potato crust, while G had a crayfish salad, with wine of course.
Finally back
to shower and change and say goodbye to Rome and Italy. Our Emirates driver picked us up right on time for the long journey home.
What a wonderful holiday!

I know this post was from a couple of years ago, so not sure if you will get this but my husband and I will be travelling to Italy to celebrate our 25th anniversary in May and I just found your trip report. Thank you for such details! Sound
like you had a wonderful trip. We be in Venice for 3 nights. Before that we plan on taking a day trip from Milan to Varenna/Lake Como area. After seeing your pictures and reading your report of Lake Como, I am thinking even more about cutting out one night from Venice and one night from Milan and instead of a daytrip to Varenna, stay 2 nights in Varenna, and 2 nights instead of 3 in Venice. We have a set date to return home and cannot extend it. We enjoy outdoor/natural beauty much more than crowds and cities so this might be a better itinerary for us. Again thank you for your wonderful report.
