It's a painful experience watching some of the passengers who have bought new cameras & PCs etc but have no idea of how to use them, I was up in the study the other day when an elderly woman was berating the I.T. Manager that the system had lost her emails and all the attachments from
her PC anyway she was fortunate that the manger got her to log into her account and restored all the emails that had been moved to another folder, although she was adamant that the were moved by a fault in the ships system and she hadn't touched nothing, yeah right.
There were far too many silver surfers for me so I decided to return late in the evening to complete my emails, once again a bad move when I entered the study there were only 2 others in the room, perfect I thought, I duly set the laptop up in an empty workstation at the back which is reserved for those with their own laptops. The gentleman in the row in front immediately started logging off and moved to the workstation at the side of me, strange I thought he was in this late 70's and seemed harmless enough and I carried on browsing only to be distracted by tell tale noises coming from the workstation next door, yup you've guessed it he was watching porno ( at maritime prices he's either loaded or desperate) but he seemed unable to mute the volume so turned it down instead, after about 10 minutes he obviously found the mute and all was quite, after a further15 minutes he glared at me and left, peace at last.
The latest on the Norovirus is that although some passengers are still affected there's been a significant decrease in incidents and it shouldn't present any problems at Cape Town.
Monday 26/01/09 Cape Town - South Africa
Arrived 07:00 after a beautiful sunrise by 09:00 we were blessed with crystal clear blue skies and not a cloud in sight, what more could you ask for. Table Mountain looks a beautiful sight standing majestically over the town and port it makes a truly impressive back drop. We were notified yesterday that Chapman's Peak roadway is still closed following a landslide in July 08, it had been anticipated that it would be open in
time for our visit but no such luck. The route is renowned as one of the 10 most beautiful drives in the world and I was really looking forward to it, anyway we've been offered an alternative tour taking in some of the mountain roads and passes which will stop at scenic viewpoints over looking the city and port below which we've accepted.
Spent the remainder of the afternoon wandering through the V & A Waterfront bars and shops before returning back to the ship, managed to steer Linda clear of the numerous jewellers selling diamonds at discounted prices, so all in all a successful day.
Tuesday 27/01/09 Cape Town - South Africa
What a difference a day makes woke this morning to find the city & mountain covered in low cloud with little of the previous days stunning scenery visible. We've booked for a city tour today followed by a trip to the top of the mountain in the revolving cable car. Fortunately the cloud cleared away mid morning although it was never far away and we had an enjoyable trip to the top taking in the fantastic panorama revealed below. Stopped off
at the local supermarket on the way back and bought 10 litres of wine for just under a £20, the cheapest wine on board is £14 a bottle although the spirits are quite reasonable.
