We have made it through our first two days on the road very well. Day one was the stretch from Kenora to Prawda - 101 km (I'm not going to round the distances as they were too hard won!). As you know from the first post, the object is for me to ride every km across Canada and because I had already ridden the highway between Thunder Bay and Kenora, our starting point was Kenora. We camped at Pine tree campground which was quite lovely. Michele found us a beautiful site beside the picturesque Birch River. She had everything set up by the time I pulled in about 4 pm, even a "home sweet home" sign on the tent. We are on a learning curve as far as camping goes - so our first night was not all that restful - air mattresses not quite right, I spilled a bottle of water, trying to figure out how to get out without waking your mate - that kind of stuff. My first day of riding was against a slight headwind all day, so I was worried what it would be like when I got out to the more open spaces of the
highway to Winnipeg. Luck was on my side, however, there was a tailwind that gained in strength all day. I got to Winnipeg (93 km) at the same time as Michele did in the car! We decided to go further than our planned stop as the day was still young. Michele had the chance to go to her favourite place - IKEA - without me trailing along behind complaining. I made my way through the traffic of Winnipeg having only 2 or 3 near death experiences. It got really hot in the afternoon, and by the time I got to Headingly, I was pouring water over my head to cool down. Even though I had been careful to coat my exposed skin in sun block, I still got a bit burned. We set up camp at a KOA (our little tent alongside all the huge RVs) just west of Headingly on the Assiniboine - total distance for the day, 137 km. We finished dinner just before a thunder storm struck. I fell asleep to the sound of rain on the tent and thunder in the sky, but I slept. As I sit here writing this in the morning, I hear snoring from the tent, so Michele is getting some much needed rest as well.
I better get going now. Michele will catch up when she is ready and we will see where we get to - Macgregor? We will find out. Michele may add a post later to giver her side of the story.

Michele & Mike's Great Adventure!
Congratulations Michael on beginning your great adventure to bicycle across Canada. I have no doubt in my mind that you will accomplish you goals because you have such an amazing support person in Michele backing you up along the way. Go team! We look forward to reading your progress and stories. Thank you both for sharing - it is way more fun to hear BOTH sides of the stories!
