We were woken by the noise of the ship docking at about 5.00am this morning. This is one of the penalties for being on a lower deck at the back. The bow thrusters were in use.
After a quick repack of the hand luggage to get everything left into the two small suitcases, we head off to the buffet for our last meal on-board. There were lots of people carrying lots of bags and it is pure chaos. Thankfully we were there before most so managed to get a decent table watching the sunrise.
We selected Green labels on Wednesday for our luggage, and when we have finished breakfast, Green has already been called, so we can head straight off the ship without delay. This is a little trick we will use in future.
There was a potential for 4000 to get off the ship and only four police officers checking passports.
At the luggage carousels, one of our bags had been designated as large and was already sitting on the floor. The rest had not arrived yet. After a short time, we had them all. It looks like we may have overfilled one of the bags
as the zip has busted.
We have booked a private limousine transfer to the airport as we have four large bags to transport as well as our hand luggage, and we well impressed to see a man at the exit to the terminal with a board with George´s name on it.
Unfortunately, the message of the amount of bags does not appear to have reached the driver as he has a luxury Mercedes saloon car with a smallish boot. Firstly, he could not get all the big bags in the boot, but we showed him how to rearrange them to make them fit. Then he said we could not take our hand luggage into the car, it would have to go in the boot, but it would not fit. The result was that one of the small bags had to be half emptied and then squeezed into the boot and then the other bag was reluctantly put into the foot well of the passenger seat. The ticket we had said four passengers to accommodate the extra bags we would have. Luckily there were only two of us. No way would he have been able to take four people,
four lots of hand luggage and the four suitcases.
The journey to the airport was great with a little luxury.
Once in the airport, we repacked the hand luggage then managed to convince the assistants at the Air China desk to let us use their scales to check the weight of our bags. A couple of little adjustments and all is correct ready for check in with Air Europa. Our luggage was coming in at 122kgs all told.
Firstly, we went in search of someone to wrap our bag that has split. €10 well spent, as we now know all the contents will stay safely inside.
We have never used Air Europa so today’s flight is another first.
Checkin went really well, once they have checked up on all our checked bags.
We have a couple of hours to kill in the airport, so head to McDonalds for a light snack and to use their free Wi-Fi.
The flight boarded earlier than we were expecting, and all seemed to be really organised. Before we knew it, everyone was on board and we were on our way with an on time take off.
For the price we paid for us, and our four hold bags, we were well impressed with this flight and would definitely look at Air Europa again for flights.
Back in Tenerife, we picked up our hire car and were home by about 4.00pm. What a great four weeks we have had.
So until our next planned travel which is already being prepared, it is goodbye from us.
